Time to get my stain on! Pre-staining before final assembly. I find this to be much easier when working on projects that have stain and paint. Yes, blue painters tape works but I’d rather not fool with the extra work.
We had the ugliest laundry room.! We spend so much time in there, we needed a space that did not make us feel as gloomy as the room looked. Can u plan a room around something you made for the wall? My faux chalk board laundry sign begged for happy white walls!! I designed this sign in Adobe Illustrator and cut a stencil on my Cricut. I painted a 1/4” ply-wood with chalk board paint and stenciled it with white chalk paint. I hated how new it looked and nearly threw it away. So I tried sanding it to rough it up. Much better! My hubby made a frame out of old fencing ready for the garbage. I then cleaned the wood, sanded it and stained it with Minwax Dark Walnut. It’s not vintage, it’s not old, it’s not perfect but it makes me smile when doing laundry! #craftygirl#cricut#cricutmade#chalkpaint#chalkboard#chalkart#homedecor#homemade#minwax#homedecor#laundryroomdecor#laundryroom
I'm not sure which one I like better with this bowl. I'm leaving towards the more contrasty walnut. I'm still looking this for a yarn bowl. 😁 What do you think?
What were you doing in 2002? I dug out the ol' scroll saw and found with it some magazines dated 2002. Has it really been that long?! Some exciting new projects are on the horizon at Sil's Signs & Designs!!!

The front lobby at Sister Alphonse Academy in St. Albert has a new faith display area! This was such a fun and challenging build... I mean how many times in your life do you get to build an 8.5 foot cross!!! I can't wait to see the seasonal and liturgical displays on this massive table!! Thank you to the staff at Sister Alphonse Academy for the opportunity to build all of your faith area furniture. I truly enjoyed it and I hope you all do too!
There is a beautiful new school opening this year in St Albert, Sister Alphonse Academy... and I had the pleasure of building all of the furniture for their faith areas.
These adorable tables went into every classroom... I built 16 of them!!! And also the cute little boxes with the cross for each one. We still need to add the perfect greenery for inside the box 😊
The school is absolutely beautiful and the tables look perfect in their classrooms. I custom mixed a @minwaxcanada stain to get the look I wanted.

Happy Monday, y'all! I finally finished my dining table that I picked up for $15 on Facebook Marketplace! It took way longer and involved a lot more work than I thought it would. Isn't that always the way it works, DIY people? 😏 I ended up sanding all the way down to bare wood. By hand, no power sander. I haven't done anything so involved that I needed one before now. If I do any more projects like this, I'm going to need one. Ha! And maybe not do it in one of the hottest months of the year. 😓 Without my husband's help, I never would've made it. But it was so worth it in the end. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with how it turned out overall. I did a little bit of "antiquing" to the base and skirt of the table. Scroll through for pics & to see a before shot. I also painted these chairs that I got for $15 total, too! I'm still on the hunt for a small bench to put back there in the corner for the rest of the seating, so wish me luck! 😃 The stain is 2 coats of Minwax gel stain in the shade coffee. Looks darker in this pic than in person. The base was spray painted using Rustoleum Painters Touch in the shade Heirloom White. I created a glaze w/ the gel stain & mineral spirits to do the antiquing.
I could kick myself for forgetting to take a “before” picture... I do that a lot! I get so excited to dig into a new find I just dive in and only after do I realize I forgot to snap a pic! Anyhow... I found this funky monkey pod wood bowl handmade in Hawaii at the local Salvation Army. She has a beautiful shape but was covered with stains, deep gouges, scuffs, and scratches. I sanded her down and now adding a coat of wax. I almost always use polyurethane, So wax is stepping out of my comfort zone! We’ll see how this goes! Xoxoxo . #gotwood ? #pastewax#minwax#monkeypod#woodenservingbowl
My first #makershirtmonday ! I don't own a lot of maker shirts since they cost money and I haven't quite perfected my money tree yet. But, I'll do one for @walkerandwood! Gingers gotta unite after all. #memphiswoodshop#finishing
