Take it from me... the girl who didn’t want a first look of any sort on her wedding day and now regrets it... GET FIRST LOOK PHOTOS.
With your mom. Your dad. Your girls. Your partner. Your dog. EVERYONE. Not only are they some of the most treasured photos after the day, but the time spent during first looks gives you some time precious & much needed time to really connect with those you love the most and think about this special day (as opposed to just rushing through the day in a frantic blur).
I promise you - you will never regret the time you take for your first looks 🖤
Raise your hand if you already miss sandal season. 😫🙋🏻♀️ Honestly, if I'm just running through the SBux drive thru or picking my daughter up from school you might just catch me in sandals regardless of the weather. 🙈😂
I don’t know about you, but there’s something about the “blah” feeling of November that I find very soothing. Between the vibrancy of October and the festivities of December, November is our quiet, gray month in between. I usually try to rush through it, but this year I’m trying (keyword: trying 😅) to slow down and be present. I intentionally left next week wide open so I can nestle in at home and do some dreaming and planning for 2019 before Thanksgiving ☺️ I’m learning that creativity needs room in order to breathe, and I’m so excited to dive in to it ✨
Some Friday feels for you. I got to spend a lot of time with Hanna the morning of her wedding and chatted lots about planning in the months leading up to she and Dan’s big day. This was right before she was going to see Dan for the first time and her sisters were helping with the final touches of getting ready. Hanna lost her mom when she was younger and had a lace heart sewn into her dress and lace from her mother’s wedding dress wrapped around her sisters’ bouquets. I can’t speak for Hanna but I can imagine all the feelings held in this moment and show you what I captured. Check my story for more from these moments. Thank you for being an awesome bride and all around person, still feeling honored to be there on your day last June @hannagosselin 💕#ellengustafsonweddings#fridayfeels

Are you getting a better look into what life in our Austrian town looks like? I hope so ☺️ cute old houses like this are everywhere. We’re tucked right next to the mountains, people bike everywhere, and hike everywhere. (And also, what I consider a hike, is actually just a walk 😂..a hike is a many hour incline very fast walk up the mountain 😅) Austrian cheese is in fact very very good, stores are closed every Sunday, church bells chime I swear 10x per day, people loveee to be outside no matter what the age, there are many coed, nude saunas (I don’t think I could try one 😳🙈), there is no filtered coffee (each cup is fresh espresso), gosh the list goes on and on. Maybe I should make a blog post 🤷🏼♀️it’s a different life and I’m glad I’ve been given the chance to experience living in 2 European countries now 🙏🏼
Adorable outdoorsy thermal leggings under this gorgeous @weddingshoppeinc dress, and @sorel trusty boots! Also known as - my favorite things under her dress during this Northwoods Cabin wedding 😜. Whatever keeps my brides toasty warm and giggling through the day is a winner! Be smart! Dress the part! 😁 PS. Rust colored vintage furs 🤤
Just a mom helping her daughter get ready to start her forever ✨
Seriously though, one of my favorite moments on a wedding day is the bride’s mom (or who ever else is just as important to them) helping them perfect their look before saying yes to forever with their best friend. It’s always such a beautiful, authentic moment of excitement, joy, and anticipation. While sometimes this moment gets rushed because of the excitement, it’s SO important to breathe and take a moment with your mom and bridesmaids before you rush off to see your man! The day can happen so fast, so whenever you get the chance to stop and soak it in, please do!
Second shot for @ashermariephotography 😍
Don’t worry, I always let them kiss after the almost-kiss. 🙌🏻
Seriously, how adorable are Izzy + Wyatt? They were the sweetest couple and powered through the freezing cold to nail their bomb engagement session! 💣
They met at SDSU (Go 🐰) when Izzy was tutoring Wyatt’s friend, and the friend made sure Wyatt met his cute tutor. I think their story gets an A+! (I’ll never stop being cheesy 😂).
Does anyone else feel like fall lasted for 2 minutes?! Next week is thanksgiving already, I did not see that coming so fast. But it is one of the best holidays so I am definitely not complaining.

Playing catch up like a crazy woman right now! Between today and Monday I’ll be wrapping up 8 sessions and a wedding! All this running around that we have been doing has taken me away from my office. It feels so great to have the next few days full of shoots and normalcy!!!
After two weeks, two different states, a conference, a retreat, a workshop, 5 different hotels/airbnbs, a ton of learning, a lot of hosting, full memory cards, and an ever fuller heart I am finally on my way back home. Thankful for this time to refill my creative cup, break out of my comfort zone, and serve the hell out of some incredible people.🌿⠀
It’s been real, but this girl is ready to go home to her hubs and pup.❤️
Did you know I used to be a chemical engineer? It took me two degrees, a BS and PhD, to figure out that I was in the wrong career. Just because you're good at something doesn't mean you should do it. I used to look around at my peers and see how passionate they were, and I just didn't care. All I wanted to do was travel around the world and take photos. When I got my PhD I decided to do something completely crazy. I left engineering and told myself I would spend the next year trying to turn my photography into a business. I traveled, I took tens of thousands of pictures, I showed my photos at art shows, and I started doing portraits. I wanted to be open to anything, and not narrow my focus until I found something I loved and that was working. That led me to weddings! Two years later, and here I am with my own photography business and lots of amazing clients I get to journey with from their engagement through their wedding, and everything that comes after. I feel so lucky to have found something I love. When I left engineering I didn't know what my future would look like. I still don't! But I'm so happy for the life I have right now. Do you feel stuck in a rut? Do you feel something pulling you in a different direction? I'd love to hear your story.
Thank you @thespurtrail for capturing me doing what I love!
Raise your hand if this skyline makes your jaw drop. A little step into my life, every week I grab some coffee and go location scouting. Found this little gem of a spot a couple weeks ago. 😍😍 Fill out my contact form on my website if you want to book a session at this location😍 (mention skyline view as location in the message)
Amanda + Rick were ridiculously fun to work with. We traveled through a dense wetland to get to these pines and they led the way! Rick carried Amanda for probably a few hundred yards in ankle deep water determined to get the shot! Talk about commitment!
It might sound crazy, but it’s not. We all have it in ourselves to create our own reality 🙌🏼 surround yourself with positivity, with people who make you feel good, who support your big dreams and your little dreams, who make you want to dream harder, and who will be there if (when) you fall a little. 💕 when a flower isn’t blooming, you change the environment around it, not the flower itself.
