See these 2 ladders?  I couldn’t even tell you how many times I went up and down those ladders over the past week, tackling this monster of a living room with 20’ ceilings in a rental house we are renovating.  Late last night I finished getting 3 coats of paint on all 4 walls.  I felt proud and accomplished.  I’m 3/4 of the way through painting this 1200 sq ft house.  As I’m coming up on my 3rd anniversary of starting at @crossfit_north_charleston it hit me last night...I wouldn’t have been able to do this 3 years ago.  All those trips up and down the ladders would’ve absolutely wrecked me.  But here I am, having spent the past week working out 6 days and still putting in a few hours a night at the house, and I feel totally fine.  I am not even close to where I want to be physically, but I am SO MUCH STRONGER than I was 🙌🏻. Getting a PR at the gym feels great, but you know what feels even better?  Saving over $2,000 because you didn’t have to hire a contractor for something you can now easily do yourself 💪🏼. It does NOT matter where you start from, AS 👏🏼 LONG 👏🏼 AS 👏🏼 YOU 👏🏼 JUST 👏🏼 START👏🏼

Into my 3rd week of this 800g Challenge with @crossfit_north_charleston and to be honest, I’m really surprised at my dedication to this!  I’ve eaten 800g or more of fruits and veggies every day, gone to the gym 6 days a week (whaaaa?? 😳😳), and basically prioritized my eating and working out above everything else.  And guess what?  It’s not as hard as I thought!  I feel really good, and it hasn’t been a struggle.  And nothing else in my life has been short changed because I’m putting extra time and thought into nutrition 🙌🏻. Mostly I like how it makes me feel to continue to show up for myself every day ❤️💪🏼

This was my post workout selfie yesterday.  I almost didn’t go.  My back started acting up the day before and typically when that happens, I just skip the gym.  BUT, I am participating in this 800g Challenge (eating 800g of fruits and veggies every day... which I have been documenting in my insta stories to stay accountable 😅) and we also get points for coming to the gym.  I’m 100% on points right now.  That’s unprecedented for me 🤣🤣. So, I was NOT willing to lose that point.  I didn’t do any of the running, kettle bell swings or sit ups with everyone else, but I DID stretch, warm up and my coach gave me an alternative workout of 20 min of assault bike stopping every 4 min to do planks and side planks.  First of all, yesterday was the first day I have successfully done side planks, so that was exciting 😂, and second, I actually felt better when I left than I did when I went in.  So, thank goodness for the competitive side of me that refused to lose that point!  Otherwise I wouldn’t have realized that movement, the right movement, no matter how modified, is the best way to stay feeling good ❤️. Never did I think that I would feel BETTER after 20 min of assault bike, and yet, here we are!  Lol!

This is my “everything hurts and I’m dying” face 😅😫🤣. Yesterday’s workout was the stuff my nightmares are made of 😬. Heavy wall balls and box over burpees...I had to bring the weight down to 14lbs on the wall ball (from 20lbs), do step ups on the box (because I WOULD have busted my shins trying to jump 😬) and stepped back on my burpees.  And still...I. WAS.  DEAD. 😵. Hahaha!

Did my first Rx workout today!!! Woot woot!  Felt good!  Other than slamming the barbell into the bottom of my chin on my last round of sumo deadlift high pulls 🙄🙄🙄. I have the worst headache now. 🤪. So grateful my niece could babysit so I could get my workout in!  Things have been a stressful hot mess around here for the past 8 weeks...I’m realizing just HOW MUCH I need these workouts to keep me sane!  Well, “sane” might be a stretch... 🤪🤣

This is me, making an effort while Matt is out of town 🤣. I tend to eat a lot of take-out if I am single parenting 🙄🤪. I’m also trying to get my nutrition back on track.  I’ve been off course for about 6 weeks.  It’s ok.  We’ve had a lot of stress and a lot of life changes since the beginning of May.  I have made a lot of strides in the past year, but a major thing I still struggle with is keeping nutrition on track no matter what else is going on.  I am definitely a stress eater 😬. Although it’s gotten better, based on the past month and a half, I clearly still have a ways to go 🤷🏻‍♀️. But I’m recognizing it, acknowledging it, and working in it.  Progress...not perfection!

Andy has a Color Run at school today and they were having a pizza party after with cookies for dessert.  I’m so grateful that we have found a gluten, egg and dairy free pizza that he loves (thanks @daiyafoods ) and gluten, egg and dairy free cookies (thanks @sweetlorens 😍. These new chocolate brownie cookies are the bomb!!). If you follow my page, then you know this isn’t his typical school lunch, but it also means he doesn’t have to feel left out at school.  We have stuck to this diet to treat his autoimmune disorder 100% and without exception for 4 straight months (with 5 months of eating cleaner before we got his test results back to know exactly which foods he needed to avoid) and in the past 4 months his involuntary eye blink/roll facial tic that was happening up to 30 times in a minute has completely resolved!  My eyes are filling up with tears as I write this 😭. His other PANDAS symptoms have drastically improved as well. This has been a long, exhausting and terrifying road over the past year and a half, but foods can heal!  I have no doubt.  This isn’t the only treatment we are doing, but I believe it is the one that has had the most significant impact and it allows the other supplements, etc to do their job ❤️

Our post workout selfie after doing “Murph” this morning for Memorial Day.  Can you tell which one of us did a full “Murph” and which one did a half? 😅. I was in such a bad mood last night because I didn’t want to do this workout today.  I did a half last year, it took me right around an hour and it wrecked me for 4 days 😬. We have a crazy week this week and I didn’t want to feel like I couldn’t move for the rest of the week 😕. But I also felt so stupid for feeling that way.  I knew I would regret it if I didn’t show up.  I did a half again this year because I didn’t think I could do a full.  I didn’t think I was really much better than a year ago 🤷🏻‍♀️. I need to get out of my own bleeping head and just start going for things 😬. This year it only took me 33:58, I felt great, and I pushed some friends’ baby in his stroller for my second run so that they could finish the workout. 😂. I guess next year I will be doing the full 😬😅. Also, working out with friends always pulls me out of a funk 😅. I feel so much better mentally and ready to tackle this week!  We have big things happening for our family this week!

I just died a little 😵... but I also got a little bit fitter 💪🏼. I try to set mini goals for myself before each workout.  I don’t like my time or reps (or being the last person working and getting time capped like today) to define how I feel about my workout.  Today my goal was to jump over the bar on the bar facing burpees instead of stepping over.  I’ve never done that before.  But today I did!  For all of them! I hate burpees so much, but I also don’t want to suck at them.  I’ve progressed from crawling down, crawling up and stepping over the bar to stepping back, jumping up with two feet and jumping over the bar 👊🏼. It doesn’t matter where you start as long as you keep moving forward 😘

Saturday morning rental showing... just waiting on the people to show up 😜. I gave my self a little extra time (didn’t need it this early on a Sat.) to get to Mt. Pleasant because of the bridge situation 🤷🏻‍♀️. This is my last rental left that I need to find tenants for 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼. May has been a whirlwind!  Things are going to be a little crazy all the way through the end of the month, but they are starting to slow down a *little* bit 😅. I’m appreciative of this quiet time sitting in an empty house right now!  LOL!  I have been suuuuuper off track this past week with workouts and nutrition.  Crazy schedule & sick kids is NOT a good mix...BUT... we have a free day tomorrow and I am going to meal plan and food prep and get back on track. I know I have been MIA on social media this week 😅. It has been an insanely busy, stressful, exciting week around here!  I’ve had to cancel some appointments in order to take care of a crazy burst of busy-ness with my property management business, along with going under contract on our house in NC, house hunting for a new investment property in Charleston (we need to roll everything into something else or we’ll owe a lot of capital gains tax 😬), and kids’ school and sports schedules 😅. The amount of paperwork that is coming along with the sale and the property exchange is a little intense, but we’re making it work!! I know I will be nervous until we close at the end of May.  I am just a little ball of anxiety.  My face is breaking out from stress, and my diet has only been about 50% on point 🙄😫...BUT...the ONE thing I have made sure is a priority is getting my workouts in 🙌🏼. I NEED that stress release! Workout DONE! 👍🏼. I’m sure I had the least number of reps out of anyone in the class, but it’s not a competition.  My only goals for today’s workout were to do the 200 m sprints (I use that word lightly, because in no way was I sprinting 🏃🏽‍♀️🤣... but I was running LOL) because I have been subbing the assault bike for all running for several months since I hurt my back.  I finally feel good enough to start testing the waters on running again 😅. AND...my other goal was to do all my box overs with box jumps and not step ups.  I accomplished both those things, so I’m happy!!! Plus, I felt good on my overhead squats today!!!! Yay!!!

I was in NC selling our first home.  We had 6 offers and went under contract less than 12 hours after showings began.  My nerves will probably be shot all the way through closing 😅. Had an early morning breakfast before a rental appointment and hopefully making it in time for the gym 🤞🏼 May is always a chaotically busy month in this house.  I know I might not be AS on point with nutrition as I want, but I am making a very conscious effort to put in the time at home and not go through drive throughs 😅. This morning I had a roasted broccoli and goat cheese omelette and some sweet potatoes.  It feels fancy, but it only took me 3 minutes to chop the veggies...put them in to roast for 15 min while I hopped in the shower...and then 5 min to make the omelette.  I have sat in Starbucks drive through lines way longer than that! 😳. You don’t have to be perfect all the time, but you can still make progress and changes even when you are busy! ☀️

Real life 🤷🏻‍♀️ No fruit or veggie this morning, messy table, got 2 kids out the door to school at 7:00 am, getting one more ready for preschool, managing a tantruming three-nager 🙄, getting ready to run a million and one property management errands, squeeze in a workout (with three-nager in tow 😅), pick up teacher appreciation gifts, pick up preschooler, pick up elementary schoolers, oversee homework, dinner, babysit my niece and get 5 kids out the door to two overlapping baseball games in 2 different locations 😅

Post workout selfie 😅. (Obviously I still haven’t cleaned out my car 🙄). It feels good to have my workout done for the day already!!!! BUT...I definitely prefer not to have little people in tow.  It’s just less stressful if I don’t have them with me.  They were very good though, so I can’t complain!  Mattie started to head out to the floor to me with about a minute left on the clock, but I just scooped her up and sat her on the boxes and said I was almost done! 😅. She stayed put, thankfully!  Lol!  So, I lost a few reps, but I got a good workout in and I would choose that over not going at all!

I’ve been having some weird health symptoms going on over the past week...that I guess are most likely stress related 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I have an appointment scheduled  to get checked out anyway. I was so wrapped up in work and sorting through some real estate stuff with Matt today, that I don’t even know where the time went!  Before I knew it, it was time to pick the boys up at school and I hadn’t even had lunch! I’m not 100% sold.  But it’s ok.  Topped it with some leftover shrimp from last night that I diced up, half an avocado, pico de gallo, a tiny bit of cheese and a little sour cream.  It would’ve just tasted better with brown rice though 😂

Getting back into the week!  Only 6 more weeks left of school 😅. It’s rainy and gross outside, the weekend went by way too fast and no one wanted to get up today 😬. But none-the-less, school lunches were made, and kids were sent off to school 😜. I timed it this morning, and it only took 7 minutes to pack lunches. I’ve had some people tell me that they don’t have time to pack lunches like this in the morning. 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s 7 minutes!  It’s not like I’m cutting things into animal shapes and adding decorative flags on toothpicks or any other Pinterest-perfect features 😂. But more power to you if that’s your thing! 🙌🏼. Anyway, I think that the mental shift is a more difficult change to make than the actual change in what you are packing.  Today the kids got left over meatloaf, strawberries and blackberries, rainbow carrots from @thebountyboxchs and some seed crackers and hummus 😋

It’s Monday!  The countdown is ON in this house!  Only 7 more weeks of school! 😂. This morning Andy got 2 slices of left over pizza.  It’s gluten/egg/dairy free 😅. Super hard to find a pizza that fits his autoimmune diet and allergy restrictions.  He has this about once a month (if we have regular pizza). As a family, we were getting take out pizza about once a week before 😬. So his diet changes have been great for the whole family!  He also got some orange & yellow carrot sticks, strawberries, and a nut and seed bar.  Tyler got the same lunch...I just subbed some chicken for the pizza 😋

Back to school today!!! We had a Spring Break full of Flu B running through our house...it hit everyone except Matt and Andy 😳. It hasn’t been enough days yet to feel like they are in the clear, but 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼. I’m really hoping Andy doesn’t get it!  It would feel like such a huge victory if my immune compromised child was my ONE kid not to get sick!! 🙌🏼. I probably need to start pouring the same level of effort into the other kids’ diets (although they do pretty well) and other immune boosting lifestyle changes as I do Andy 😬. We have seen a REMARKABLE improvement in Andy’s PANDAS symptoms over the past 4 months...most noticeably, his facial tic is almost 100% gone 🙏🏼... it felt very overwhelming to implement so many new things into our lives, and for a while, I felt like I was constantly grasping at straws.  I know that PANDAS symptoms can improve and then flare and continue in that cycle, so I know that we are not “out of the woods” but for now I feel like I can breathe a small sigh of relief ❤️

We have seen a REMARKABLE improvement in Andy’s PANDAS symptoms over the past 4 months...most noticeably, his facial tic is almost 100% gone 🙏🏼... it felt very overwhelming to implement so many new things into our lives, and for a while, I felt like I was constantly grasping at straws. Although we have greatly reduced added sugar in the kids’ diets since Andy was diagnosed with PANDAS we haven’t totally eliminated it.  His IgG tests showed that he needs to stay away from eggs, wheat and dairy...and we stick to that 100%, without exception.  So, if we have a party, or they are doing something at school where sweets are involved, these cookies from @sweetlorens have become our go-to.  It was REALLY hard to find cookies that were gluten free AND vegan (to get the egg and dairy free), so I’m super grateful that the @publix down the street carries these!  One of the most difficult parts of having to do an elimination diet with kids is having them feel left out at parties when they can’t have what everyone else is having.  I think this is where it is really easy, as a parent, to cave and make exceptions.  But every time that happens, you are setting your child back on making progress improving their gut health and immune function.  In a perfect world, Andy wouldn’t be having any added sugar either, but this helps us to balance the mental challenges for him with his diagnosis and the changes we’ve had to make, and still staying compliant with his diet.  And this truly is just a once in a while treat ❤️

I was NOT feeling it this morning to cook anything.  I’m pretty much over spring break with sick kids, cooped up at home 😬😬😬😬. BUT....I’m glad I pulled it together 😅. Following a plan that tells me what kinds of food to eat in what portions and at what time makes it easy for me.  It frames my eating for the day, but still gives me flexibility.  It is getting easier to put meals together 😅😜

Some days you just do “mostly good” with nutrition 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m trying really hard to limit those days.  Tonight we had an impromptu trip back to the doctor because our little flu patient who was hit the hardest had developed a really bad double ear infection and was literally screaming and crying in pain 😫. Matt walked in the door from work, and right back out to take Tyler 5 min later, so that I could shower and be presentable to walk out the door 5 min after they walked back in to go to a rental showing.  So, I found myself in North Mt Pleasant, well past dinner, and I was sooooo hungry.  I know we always have a choice.  And I could’ve made the choice to wait until I got home at 9 pm and then make dinner, or go in to Harris Teeter and grab something.  My plan was to get chicken salad, but they were all out and I left with a slice of pizza and a bottled water.  So, I just savored every bite (because we never get pizza anymore since Andy can’t eat it) and listened to a reallllly eye opening podcast on pelvic floor disfunction (sounds really exciting, right?!😂) on my drive home.  So, all was not lost!  Lol!  But for real, I had a completely different idea of what the pelvic floor was and what it does!  I had ZERO clue that those 4 muscles were affecting my glute strength, and that they even affect your shoulders!  And tightness in the hips after workouts...What?! And it is about so much more than just “keeping your core tight.” I was so fascinated through the whole thing. A friend asked me today 1.  How much chopping and food prep of veggies I do on the weekend?
2.  How many containers I have and if I am constantly washing dishes?
I actually don’t prep any veggies over the weekend.  Since I work from home, it’s easy to just chop what I need at meal time (took me under 2 minutes to chop some peppers today). I don’t store food in my portion containers.  I just eat whichever containers I’m supposed to at each meal and use them to measure out portions.  It balances my macros out for me throughout the day, so it feels easier to me....less I have to figure out 🤷🏻‍♀️. I think that any healthy meal plan that eliminates added sugars and focuses on balanced nutrition works!  I think different methods of getting there click for different people depending on how their brain is wired.  This feels easy to me, so this is what I do 😘. And yes, I always have a ton of dishes 🤣🤣. But since I just use these to measure food throughout the day, and don’t have containers for a week’s worth of food stored in my fridge, it’s not any extra work to rinse these out 😜. Lunch today:  sausage meatballs (Matt made them last night), salad with peppers and cherry tomatoes and a tsp of vinegrette, Babybell cheese and an apple for dessert (1 red, 2 green, 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 purple, 1 tsp)

Real life today:  since Thursday we have had a vomit virus, I was in the ER to pass a kidney stone, and 3/6 of us appear to have Flu B (I’m not paying the copay to have us all tested.  Tyler tested positive yesterday, so I’m assuming the other two of us who had fevers and still have coughs that won’t quit, have it too 🤷🏻‍♀️). Now that I have re-joined the land of the living, I am on a MISSION to clean and disinfect this house!!!!! Y’all don’t even want to know how bad it gets when a family of 6 goes down for 3+ days 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. My food prep and eating motto for today is just “don’t eat like crap” while I catch up on everything else.  Should I be eating this grilled English muffin?  NO.  Do we ever even buy these?  NO.  Do I know why my husband bought them?  NO.  Do I care?  No I do not.  It is delicious! 😋. We also had a bunch of oranges to use up, so I fresh squeezed some juice 🍊. Figured I could use all the vitamin C I could get!  Now, excuse me while I try to go be super Mom and tackle this house and nurse sick kids 😷
