As a frequent traveler, I like the option of staying in an Airbnb so I can save my hotel points and because I can usually get more for my money. However, as a mom, I don’t see enough family friendly Airbnbs and frequently book family-friendly hotels because of the reliable option for kitchenettes, a travel baby bed provided free of charge, and the minimal clutter.
Hotels have standardized rooms, and you know what you are getting. And with hotels, I can use points and get a free (or much cheaper!) stay. With Airbnbs, it’s always to some degree, a surprise.
Airbnb Can Expand on “Plus” Verification to Certify Family-Friendly Spaces As Well
Airbnb recently announced Airbnb Plus. Airbnb Plus is a “new selection of only the highest quality homes with hosts known for great reviews and attention to detail.” Airbnb sends employees out to assess the property for things like fast WiFi, style, easy check-in, essentials such as coffee, and fully equipped kitchens. If the property has these things, then they get the “Plus” badge.
I would like to see Airbnb taking this concept even further to appeal to certain groups, like families and business travelers. Family friendly Airbnbs could earn a “Family” badge. This would make Airbnb Family searches trustworthy and give incentives to hosts to make their spaces family friendly so they can appear first in search results. Sometimes, I can spend hours trying to find the most family friendly Airbnb to stay in, and having a reliable search function would make my life so much easier.

Mike is our newest reader success story to show folks it’s possible to travel without spending a lot of money. If you’re planning a vacation, take a look our list of top rewards credit cards to see how you can book your trip for a fraction of the retail cost!
1. What’s your name and how long have you been involved in the miles & points hobby?
My name is Mike and I’ve been involved in the miles and points hobby for approximately 16 years. I started soon after working at my first job after college. The first reward credit card I ever opened was a United Airlines card with Chase. That card got the ball rolling and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve found the miles and points hobby to be very beneficial in helping us save money, especially now that I have a family and 2 kids! I also introduced my wife to this wonderful hobby shortly after we got married about 7 years ago.

Having Priority Pass membership from credit cards that offer lounge access has made a world of difference in my travels. There’s no better feeling than being able to sit in a nice quiet area, enjoy free food and drinks, and even freshen up with a shower before a flight!
If you have an iPhone or Android smartphone, you’ll be able to download the free Priority Pass mobile app to help you make the most of your Priority Pass membership. It’s loaded with features so that you can see available amenities, hours of operation, and much more for each lounge location worldwide.
More recently, the app was updated to help you save money at the airport by offering special discounts and offers to certain stores within the app itself!

Last weekend, I flew to Chicago for the 9th year of the Chicago Seminars. The Chicago Seminars is a miles and points conference and has various sessions where you can learn beginner tips and tricks, to more advanced hotel and airline redemption advice.
In the miles and points world, you can go to kindergarten, or get your PhD. The seminars are a great way to learn about new topics, whatever your skill level is!
I met up with Haley, who runs the Facebook group, Girls Love Travel. I’ve been a member for years and love the community. Ladies all around the world share their travel tips and inspiration!
Toni Southam, a very talented travel photographer, also made an appearance and gave a talk on how to take the best pictures when traveling.

Do you use points & miles to travel? My trip to Japan was the first time I ever used miles. My husband introduced me to points and then thanks to blogs like @thepointsguy and @millionmilesecrets I learned how to earn & redeem miles to lower my travel costs. It does require being organized, having good credit and being flexible on travel dates. But I knew if I wanted to travel frequently I had to figure out a way to do it cheaper. I’ve literally saved thousands of dollars in airfare and hotel costs thanks to rewards. ⠀
Points and miles aren't as valuable as before, but definitely check out the above blogs to learn more. Btw how do you offset your travel costs? Let me know in the comments below 😊

Marriott operates 2 resorts on the Walt Disney World property, the Walt Disney World Swan and the Walt Disney World Dolphin. These are popular hotels for folks in the miles & points hobby because it’s easy to earn and redeem Marriott points for stays!
The good news is, Marriott has come to an agreement with Disney to build a new hotel tower where the Swan Resort’s tennis courts currently sit. This means there will be more rooms to book with Marriott points, which is just one of many ways to save on your trip to Disney World.
