If your little one won't drink a glass of milk alternative, and hot choc is a no-go, you could add milkshake powder to make it more tolerable. Crusha, Nesquik and Sweet Freedom (thanks for the tip @theintoleranttots 😉) are some of the ones you could use. ⠀
Alternatively you could add a couple of drops of vanilla essence to improve the taste. Or warm up the milk alternative and add a drizzle of honey...⠀
Do you Mums have any other tips? If there is no way of getting your child to take any of the milk alternatives, do you use any other hacks to get some calcium into their diet?⠀
Not only have we been a strict milk avoidance resource for 13 years, but we can now also share our baked-in milk recipes as part of our OIT journey. Excited for this additional chapter at Milk Allergy Mom but still working out where to park the info so we don’t confuse any allergy friends. Suggestions are welcome! 🤔
I’ve had a lot of fruit snacks in my day y’all (😬🤫), but lemme tell you that these are the JAM! (Found @target ) Allergy-Friendly, delicious AND nutritious (ok so probably not “nutritious” exactly, but a much better option than most gummies 😏). These are an absolute MUST for your Halloween bags this year!!
This poor guy is going through hell with colic, reflux and a dairy allergy and a possible corn allergy. Yet when he gets a moment of peace he's so happy. I strive to be like him. Always happy and loving. Every broken road led me where I needed to be. Once I get him transitioned to the proper formula I have a butt ton of work to get done so I will be baby wearing like crazy. It's time for Mark and I to make our dreams reality. Big things are happening and we can not wait. This little guy will be a happy southern boy just like his daddy
Dear @starbucks, PLEASE make more of your products dairy free!!! I love that you give plant milk options but a lot of the powders you use still contain milk powder which is just as detrimental. I promise you’ll get WAY more customers if you get rid of dairy! We vegans and people with milk allergies will love you!!! 💚☕️
Because he ❤ me. Yesterday my hubby, Chris, surprised me and stopped at the market, with 4 kids in tow, when he did afternoon pick up from school (I have 1 child who goes to a private Christian school, while I homeschool the 3 youngest). He came home with some goodies hoping to make my transition to dairy free a little easier (because literally EVERY go-to snack I usually eat has milk in the ingredients 😣). If that wasn't sweet enough, he actually looked up the WW sp and wrote them on the package!!! People! We aren't some starry eyed newlyweds over here. We have been married for 26 years!! He has always been my biggest supporter and cheerleader!!! The "ice cream" is delicious, though it is VERY high in sp (13 sp for a 1/2 a cup 😲). I did find a different brand that was 6 sp, so hopefully it will taste just as good.
The chocolate is 9 sp for the whole bar. I plan to have 1/2 a bar tonight with a cup of decaf tea.
I haven't tried anything else yet.
My switching to dairy free is purely for medical reasons. I have reason to believe I am allergic. For me, I can work around no dairy for meals. You will never find me drinking a glass of milk and I can live without cheeses. It is all the hidden dairy that is found in my snacks that is tough. This has been an eye opener for me. I didn't realize how much I depended on quick, easy processed snack foods (even on WW). I think this change is going to be a fantastic one.... once my body realizes I am not starving it 😉
Is your child on a milk free diet but can't stand to drink a glass of their milk alternative? It would be a shame to miss out on this great source of calcium!⠀
Could your little one be talked into a mug of hot chocolate for supper? Just form a paste out of the cocoa powder and small amount of warm milk alternative, and then add the rest of the warm milk alternative whilst stirring.⠀
The products in the pic are all milk free. ⠀
The Nesquik, Bournville and Green & Blacks are 'may contain' but no milk in ingredients.⠀
The Nesquik and Green & Blacks contain Soya.⠀
Green and Blacks 'may contain nuts.'⠀
Please do check ingredients for yourselves though!!⠀
Do any mums out there have any favourite allergen friendly hot choc powders? Do you have any other ideas on how you can incorporate milk alternatives into your children's diet?⠀

It's weaning time at the zoo!
When we weaned Evie it was probably the easiest part of her babyhood. She was ready, willing and a right little greedy guts! Elena turned six months a few days ago and we have been weaning in our house for about two weeks.
I never knew two sisters who share the same parents could be so completely different.
Elena has a milk allergy so I was utterly terrified going into weaning with her... especially with a toddler running around. I don't think anybody understood how anxious I was about dairy free weaning, because that is the route we have to go down. Elena had to have a dietician appointment before we started, I was terrified to death multiple times by health visitors and doctors who kept repeating words like 'allergic reactions' and 'anaphalactic shock' and then don't get me started on step one where I nearly had a meltdown in the baby food aisle when looking at baby rice. "Does EVERYTHING have fucking milk in it?!" Apparently so.
My window of suitable foods dropped even more when I was given a huge food Bible from the dietician. It was basically a double sided manual of what food she can't have and what food contains milk.
So I'm weaning my baby on water and air.
In reality I have started off the way I did with Evie, my good eater. Baby porridge to get used to the texture and single veggies. There isn't a single veggie that Evie won't eat, but then again there was a whole lot of nights that she didn't sleep. I'm thankful that Elena is my good sleeper and Evie is my good eater.
It has taken two weeks for Elena to comfortably take more than a few small spoonfuls, and my anxiety still hasn't completely gone down.
We've done okay though considering we have skipped puree all together and gone straight to mashed food.
She's gagged a few times and I'm constantly waiting for allergic reactions and inspecting her skin while she blows mouthfuls of food at me...but I'm starting to settle down! Thankfully she is getting used to this quicker than I am. *Continued in comments
Guys, this is NOT a drill!! I found a new @divvies product @sprouts that looks uh-maze-ing! They had chocolate brownie & Java chip mini cookies 🔥🤤 Unfortunately, these do contain wheat but are free of the other 7 allergens. What is your favorite @divvies product? 🍪
An unfortunate 2nd death has occurred at Pret A Manger. This time a customer purchased a non dairy yogurt but it had traces of dairy protein in it. This follows an earlier announcement of another customer dying because of sesame seeds in her sandwich that were not listed. The restaurant chain said it would start affixing ingredient labels on its fresh products. This is a nightmare scenario for those who have or those who know someone with food allergies. #pretamanger#sesameallergy#dairyallergy#milkallergy#anaphylaxis#foodlabels#flatbread#yogurt
My little Rigby has officially been diagnosed with food allergies. I am reaching out to friends and family here. She cannot have Milk, wheat or peanuts and I would love some help finding good, kid friendly meals for her. She is sooo picky😒
