It is in the late night hours when I think about my daughter the most. Some days longer than others but always thinking about What if.... Losing a child is a forever pain that has no remedy or quick fix to make it go away. You just learn pain management and some days that doesn't work. All across the world today candles were lit in memory of all those baby girls and boys that have gone to heaven. Your light shines bright not just in my heart but in world through the help we give to Mommas and their families. Healing is a process and a journey that can take what seems like forever. Your life and death meant something and you will continue to live in everything I do. Sending Air Hugs and Kisses All the way to Heaven until I can deliver then in person. #troyasimone#amothersloveisforever#gonebutnotforgotten#littlegirlsareagift
To the babies who touched heaven before they touched our arms. To the babies that heaven needed more than we did. To the mamas and daddies with empty arms. Midwives, doulas, mamas and daddies, family, we’re a community, uniting and fighting together. Healing as a whole. We remember, today on Pregnancy and Infant Loss awareness day, and every day ❤️
#regrann

Tonight at 7pm we light candles worldwide to remember those babies that we lost far too soon. Blessings to them all, and one in particular for me. Much love to you all that are remembering and honouring tonight. 🙏💛
I was at a very long birth this weekend and it was so sweet to be able to step away for a few minutes and surprise my boys when Chris took them to the mall to ride the carousel 🎠😍😍 I love them so much! I’m so thankful that Chris is “A Midwife’s husband” and rearranges everything so that I can do what I love to do 💗#purejoy#boys#boymom#midwife#husband#wife#partner

First thing I see as I walk into Katie and Brad’s room. It always amazes me what works for some women. The fact that we are all so different and can channel our ability to decider what will help us pull through the waves of pain? I find that amazing.
How do you labor? What’s your trick for riding true pain?
This technique seemed to really do it for Katie last night. She made it look so easy. Did I mention she had an unmedicated birth? #kirklandbirthphotographer#seattlebirthphotographer#birthbecomesher#birthmatters#midwife
Despite how crazy her life has been with juggling school and family life over the past few years, she graduated Summa Cum Laude and passed boards last week...AND get this...has already signed up to further her education! If that's not dedication, I don't know what is! Gotta love a good black and white, am I right? 😍
This goddess 🙏✨”I saw that photo of the duchess leaving the hospital in heels and full glam. TBH, it totally rubbed me the wrong way. Idk about you, but that seemed a bit unrealistic (and highly uncomfortable) for me.
Many women feel dysphoria, depressed, zombie-like, raw, vulnerable, confused and/or dreamy after birth. If your birth was traumatic in any way, these feelings could be exemplified and you could feel down right icky. We're getting to know our new babies and our changed body. Our breasts may be leaking and wombs still bleeding. We could also be achy, exhausted, sick, and in pain. No one should feel inclined to get extra dressed up and do a full face of makeup + hair to leave the hospital or feel any pressure to "present" yourself and babe to the world.
We shouldn't be expected to walk out of birth acting like we didn't just literally split in 2 and push a human out of our bodies! No matter how you birth, it's a huge emotional, physical, and spiritual transition and we deserve time, space, and privacy to heal.
No hate on Kate but I'd like you all to know that for a lot of us, postpartum looks a little bit more like this.....
🌸babe red, squishy, nakey, squealing, and perfectly sized for one hand 🌸swollen uterus, proudly posing like I'm still pregnant 🌸mesh hospital undies(comfy and sexy as hell in my opinion) 🌸make-up free, tired eyes and dirty bedhead 🌸sleep deprived yet oxytocin pumped smile 🌸dog photo bombing in the back.

Who loves a good pregnancy stretch-mark loving belly oil? .
Most mamas are using a popular store bought one (you know the one) that is full of ingredients that ain’t so healthy for you or your babe. No judgement because I totally used this in my first pregnancy 🤰😬🤦🏼♀️.
Actually, the Environmental Working Group has flagged this common belly oil as an 8/10 for toxicity. Yikes.
Mamas-to-be, make this nourishing, healthy DIY version I’ve dreamed up for you instead. Using safe 2% dilution and oils recommended by the International Journal of Childbirth Education as safe 👌.
🌱 Frankincense for clarity, soothing and helping skin to improve collagen and elasticity
🌱 Lavender for hydration, soothing and calming
🌱 Peppermint for cooking and soothing that stretching itch
🌱 Chamomile (optional) for extra calming and hydrating benefits
My Granma used to use the store bought not-so-healthy version on her face, and when I educated her and helped her create her own, her face transformed in tone, clarity and hydration.
Going toxin free does NOT mean going results free 💕💕
Who is making this healthy swap?! Drop an emoji below!
Tag your pregnant mamas below so they can ditch this chemical laden oil in favour of something simple and healthy 🙏🏼🌱
Ps. A few more days til I open up my free beautiful pregnancy consults for mamas ready to transition to green cleaning and beauty guided simply by me. Let me know if you want on the wait list and tag your pregnant mama babes 🙏🏼

That moment ...
We look at our newborn baby, after many months of waiting with a strange mixture of excitement and fear, and say our first tentative “hello!”.
Sometimes we are struck with an immediate love:
a deep and certain knowledge that it will be ok; we already feel a deep attachment to this little being..
And, sometimes we feel puzzlement. “Are you mine? I don’t recognise you. You’re a stranger to me and I don’t feel as I expected to.” This is the story we don’t get told and yet it is so very common. Why wouldn’t it be?.
Happily, evolution does not need us to be instantly in love with our newborn. It simply needs us to feel compelled, whenever a baby cries and “roots”, to pick them up and care for them. Even if we do it automatically, almost with a sense of duty..
Love and attachment will come over the next few intense months..
So, whatever you feel at the moment of birth, try to let evolution keep you and your newborn safe. Follow your innate instinct to pick your little one up whenever they cry (and that will be pretty much every time you put them down!) and simply soothe and suckle; suckle and soothe whilst evolution, which is written deep into your DNA, works it’s magic.🤱🏻❤️🤱🏻❤️🤱🏻❤️🤱🏻❤️🤱🏻❤️🤱🏻❤️🤱🏻.
October 15th each year is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness day. So many families have experienced a loss, and many go through it without others around them even knowing they’re grieving. Confide in a friend sweet mamas, and always know you can call us anytime.
These care packages for loss could not be anymore perfect. @lemonsandconfetti

Happy BIRTHiversary to me! Oh, and hubby. 😆
9 years of parenting. Well, plus pregnancy because I fully believe that parenting begins in pregnancy.
What a ride. I didn’t know I would grow so much as I have through parenting. Sometimes I go, ‘Ok God, I didn’t ask to grow THIS much. Can we chill out a bit?’ BUT my oh my, it’s been so worth it. I love my munchkin. I have two girls and one might assume I’d say they are my mini me, but out of all my kids, it’s him who is my mini me. 👩👦
The greatest physical intensity of my life getting that boy out.
Thanks to my love for ALWAYS ALWAYS walking side-by-side and arm-in-arm with me. ❤️❤️ Happy parentiversary babe.
Hauwa Leman, another aid worker of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been executed by the Islamic State West Africa Province, (ISWAP)a faction of Boko Haram. The group has also said that they will keep Leah Sharibu as a slave for life.
Recall that Seriousmata reported in September 2018, about the death of Saifura Ahmed Khorsa, a midwife who was executed by the Islamic sect.
24-year-old Leman was among the three humanitarian health workers that were captured in March 2018 in Rann, Kala Balge local government of Borno State. Leah was a midwife and student of health education at the University of Maiduguri.

In my wave of light post, I posted that I was thinking of the families child loss affects. Lying in bed thinking about my experience and then others experiences. I realised child loss affects a whole other group of people. The midwives, drs and nurses. They’re the ones who break the news and watch lives be turned upside down. They’re the ones who sit beside you, holding your hand. Listen to your sobs. And fears and worries. You deal with baby loss every single day and I Thank you to you all, you amazing bunch of people😘😘
Happy Monday! Check out the "Design with the 90%" exhibit at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center. The exhibit features HeartStrings created by the Mother Health International team in Uganda. We are proud to work with Mother Health International to provide access to this technology.

Salmonberry Midwives and Birth Center did an amazing job supporting this Mama.
This journey of womb healing and living out the legacy of two of my great grandmothers is so amazing.🙌🏾
There is something magical when a gathering of wombmen happens in a sacred space. The amount of knowledge within these wombs from different ages and walks of life allowed us to heal, learn and love as a collective.
Gratitude and love for Pilar Maat, doula of 30 years, (@birthmamaa/@helpuheal) as she gave her wisdom and experience after birthing her own 7 children and being a doula to many mothers and also Elder Shafia Monroe @shafiamonroe, founder of the International Center for Traditional Childbearing (ICTC) as she shared her wisdom, knowledge and experience. 💚💐💙 The ancient traditions of our ancestors are being passed down when the student is ready to learn. ▫️
Grateful to be in alignment with ancestors who did this work, being a part of the current & future generation of healing wombs, learning from our elders and building with this community which began with healing and loving amongst each other. @yasmindera @victorious_blk @kiarathevoice @doulachristian @helpuheal @shafiamonroe 🙏🏾🙌🏾
What a great example of the “fetal ejection reflex”! According to drmomma.com:
The fetal ejection reflex is one that happens for most birthing women -- when they are fully safe, supported, and allowed to birth in peace.
What are the pros of labouring in water?
Relaxation and good hormones
The relaxing effect of water, with its support and warmth, can help you through your labour. Your contractions may lose their rhythm if you become tense. This means your labour may stop and start without moving on. Being bathed in water is likely to help you go with your contractions, so that they're less stressful for you and your baby.
Being relaxed also helps you to breathe calmly. It means you're less likely to take short, shallow breaths, which can make the pain of contractions worse.
In active labour, labouring in water may help your body to release less of the stress hormone adrenaline and more of the labour hormone oxytocin. This stimulates your labour contractions to be strong and regular. Your body may also release more endorphins. These are the hormones that help you cope with contractions.
Coping with pain
Being in warm water can make it easier for you to cope with the pain of contractions. It's just the same as having a bath to soothe a tummy ache or backache. If you want strong pain relief, such as pethidine or an epidural, you'll have to leave the pool. But you can use gas and air, which is a mild pain reliever, while you're in the water if you're giving birth in a hospital or birth centre.
This is BIRTH WEEK! Like shark week but way happier and more fun 😝 Sunday is Geneva’s 1st birthday and I’m celebrating with a whole week of info on home birth, natural birth, pregnancy, and more. And this oil ☝🏼 is so versatile for all the above. Lavender was my go-to sleep oil for myself, applying to bottoms of my feet in addition to taking Cal/Mag to get rid of those nasty leg cramps that assault me in the third trimester!
Lavender is the diffuser oil I like best for baby sleep and for during labor. Mine was too fast to get the diffuser ready 😂 but next time, it will be lavender and Stress Away for sure!
Head to my stories to here my answers to your questions from last week! 🙌🏻 and comment below with your favorite uses for lavender!
Rasakan menjadi ibu. Rasakan menjadi bagian dr kesempurnaan wanita.

Circumcision is one of the most controversial topics in newborn care. Parents of male newborns are tasked with making a decision about their baby’s foreskin – to leave it intact or to remove it by way of circumcision. Read more on the blog under “The Circumcision Decision” by one of our midwives, Taylor Morrison, CNM. (You can find the blog on our website 💙)
Some days feel so overwhelming with all the changes that our family has gone through in the last few months and the emotional ups and downs of it all. And now I’m in a course load that equals 60 hours/week just to be able to take a lighter term once we move to Hawaii 🤯. At some point almost every day I’m thinking: What the heck am I doing?!? Why are we still even on this journey?? •
But then I have moments where I feel so blessed to be in school and so excited for the level of trust and surrender the Lord is teaching us to walk in. Sincerely, thank you for praying for our family in this season. Thank you for all your love, encouragement and support. 🙌🏼 Thanks for believing with us that in the years to come these formative years of schooling will be a tool to reach areas of this world that don’t currently have the Gospel. We absolutely know we aren’t doing this alone. 🌍🌏✨

International Pregnancy & Infant Loss Day🦋 .
A very difficult, yet rewarding part of my job as a Midwife is caring for a woman faced with the devastating reality of losing their unborn child. In Australia, 1 in every 4 pregnancies result in a miscarriage and 3000 babies are stillborn. .
I take great pride in this part of my job and feel incredibly honored to help these women through such horrible circumstances. Although complete strangers, I allow myself to become completely vulnerable, I cry with them and I grieve with them for a loss I could never imagine enduring myself. Such a selfless act which takes so much strength and courage, to birth, hold and love a child that was not made for this world👼💫 Today is for you💙🦋
Did you know I can make you custom herbal blends for your pregnancy or postpartum period? This is a bag of sitz bath herbs! So many herbs can help our bottom’s heal after birth. These herbal blends can be used for just a sitz bath or a whole body soak, depending on your preference. With aromatic healing herbs like chamomile and rose, who wouldn’t want to soak in that?
Mentor Monday - I was extremely fortunate during my second pregnancy to be treated by Raven Lang, LAc, OMD & Midwife. Our whole family had already been seeing her and I had referred many pregnant women to her, but to receive her magic while I was pregnant and postpartum was truly a blessing that I carry and pass down to my own Midwifery clients. One of her postpartum treatments, Mother Roasting, I incorporate into my own practice. Mother Roasting covers the physical and spiritual postpartum care that most all women can enjoy and benefit from.
Mother Roasting... "the concepts and treatment of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the mother in her fourth trimester—the first three months after delivery. Heat is used on the areas of the mother called the Ming Men/LIfe Gate and/or the Dan Tien/Sea of Qi— in order to consolidate and nourish her qi and blood, close down the gates of birth, and facilitate lactation. The concept of Mother Roasting comes from several different pre-industrial cultures where some form of heat or fire is used in the immediate postpartum to nourish the mother and aid her in maintaining strength after delivery." see more at Raven's website, www.ravenlang.com #motherroasting#postpartum#midwife#homebirth#moxa#ravenlang
