At long last! A real PR on a big 3 lift! 125kg for 1. The penultimate part of my physical destruction mission before I go on holiday is complete.
It's been nearly 2 years since I tested a 1RM on high bar squats. I've since made good progress for a long time doing triples and doubles rather than 1RMs. @thibarmy has an interesting article on @testosteronenation called "The 1RM is dead" which argues that for non-competitors (like myself) testing your 1RM serves little benefit.
This isn't a huge amount of weight comparatively speaking and my squat has been a weak point of mine since I stopped the powerlifting style training nearly 2 years ago. My bench shot right up, my deadlift progressed gently and my regular squat fell behind. Mainly because I got bored of it at one point and stopped all together for 4-6 months last year (I think?). Which had its consequences. No excuses, it's time to get better than ever before. I'm close to where I left off with low bar squatting, my best low bar squat being 130kg for meh depth.
The rep itself looked easier on camera than it felt. I thought of going for 130kg but decided that it was best saved for another day. I've been running a program that hasn't had me squat over 80% of my 1RM for over 4 months. I thought I may have detained but this looked smooth as hell. My core was stronger and I was more upright. I owe that to actually training abs this year and @generaltustrong teaching me about pinching my rhomboids and elbow positioning a few months back. I haven't put a belt on in months! However now it's back to heavier sets.
Now that I'm back from a week of adventures in Colorado with @z_tyler_perdue, here's another video from East Coast's Most Powerful in Baltimore last weekend. This is the event I was most excited about because pressing, duh. I was one of only three women to complete the medley all the way through twice (we had two minutes to do this), and I did it with the second fastest time.
You can also see and hear Tyler throughout. He did an amazing job supporting me and my events while contending with his own incredibly heavy and difficult competition. He was awesome throughout the day!
