Where am I traveling from for #TpTAustin19 ? Austin! 😂 I live here in ATX, so all I'll have to do when the conference is here is drive from my house to the conference location downtown! 🚘 I've been living in Austin for about four-and-a-half years now, so I'm suuuuuper stoked that the next annual @teacherspayteachers conference is here! 🙌🏻 Who else will be there?! Tell me! 👇🏻
. . . . .
P.S. Do you 👀 any 📚 you love on my bookshelf?! 💜
The @HighMeadowsSchool middle schoolers just hosted Secret Shop! Each year, we provide free gifts for students at @starhousefoundation to pick from for their families. Our 6th-8th graders then organize a fun afternoon for all- including gift wrapping and cookies and milk. Thank you, High Meadows #middleschool , for another successful year of the Star House Secret Shop! 🎁 🎁 🎁
Here’s our debt payoff goal for the new year! This will leave us with just our cars to pay off in 2020 (when I turn 25) 🎉 Have you set your goals for 2019 yet?! Are you being more or less aggressive with your snowball? 💃🏼

Our students were working at the food bank last week, helping to prep up food packages and to deliver them to families in need⠀
We are so proud of them for such kind work!
Sharing something personal this morning. This is my sons work. He worked for hours on this homework. I know because I stayed up with him multiple nights past 12 am. 🌓
I found it at the bottom of his bag. He is beyond smart always has been. Started talking full sentences and counting before he could walk but he struggles with organization and executive functioning. We are realizing his giftedness has hidden his needs. He routinely scores above grade level in ela comprehension and science and on grade level for everything else but it takes him a while to get started and to complete his work . He’s also an amazing musician 🎼 and chess player and athlete and well behaved in school. Not what people who think of “special needs” think of. We are trying to get his new school to recognize that he needs more than a 504, he needs a real iep (Individual Education Plan) and it must address the fact that he’s what we call in education a 2E child, twice exceptional a child both gifted and with a special need. They say he has to do a 504 1st bc he doesn’t qualify for an iep. That’s wrong. As educators we have to be able to recognize these children in our classrooms and homes. The ones who seemingly are off task but can answer the question posed but had 0 notes written and missed half of the lesson bc they were still unpacking or late and like my son routinely forgets or chooses not to write or hand in work. When he does complete his work it’s above grade level 😑I’m sharing this side because I want other families to know you’re not alone & I need educators to know that kid in your class may just need accommodations and modifications, not a point or 5 points deducted from late work and a closed door for lateness. 😒I tutored so many children taught so many more and I am hopeful that this team of educators will put as much effort into my child as I did for so many others. 💕 thanks for listening (reading)
Students will enjoy practicing scientific measurements with this holiday Merry Measurement Activity! There are 28 cards for students to measure with a fun Christmas theme. Students will practice measuring length with a ruler and broken ruler, volume of solids, liquids and irregular shaped objects by water displacement and reading mass with a triple beam balance. There are also problems with reading force on a spring scale and temperature on a thermometer. The cards come in large and small in color and black/white. Perfect to set up a Gallery Walk, stations or to use as task cards. You can also project it on the screen and use it whole group as a warm up each day. Great for student engagement and retention!
Get it from my store from the link in my bio.
The inaugural year of the TPS Style Squad has brought some of the best kids I've ever met to my studio, full of personality and fun times...even a pair of siblings! Watching Spencer and Ben banter back and forth was a riot, but I quickly realized how wonderfully their mom, Kristy, raised these two wonderful young'uns.
When I met Spencer, I never knew a seventh grader could pack so much personality into her self-proclaimed "shortest kid in 7th grade's" little body. She's made me smile a million times and kept me on my toes the whole time!
Some fun facts about Spencer?
--She loves to bake (hey...where's my cookies, girlfriend?) and chicken-n-dumplings is her favorite food...."like ever."
-Favorite sports team: Panthers
-Who is your hero? My brother--he has protected me my whole life and he does everything for me
-We asked Spencer why she's so fabulous:
"Uh...I got it from my mama. I am confident and funny as heck. I'm smart.
-Smart, you say? Check out what she does at school:
Beta Club, cheerleading, Interact Club, and SGA
Be sure to stay tuned for more when we share Ben's Style Squad photos!
Unfortunately last week’s snow cancelled our end of season parties and showcases at several Game On, Girl! after school sites ❄️☃️
Check out some highlights from Game On, Girl! 🍂Fall 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣8️⃣!
Our teams and coaches had a successful season learning fun ways to stay active ⛹️♀️🤾🏽♀️🤸🏻♀️, staying committed to safe and healthy behaviors 🍎, respecting one another through positive sportswomanship 👯♀️, working together as a team 🤝, and most importantly - having fun while doing all of the above! 😁✨ We can’t wait to see what the Spring🌸 has in store for us! 🤗💕
Hey all! I just thought I’d officially introduce myself. Plus I’ve got this super retouched school photo. Isn’t my complexion amazing? Jk...who has skin like that?!? Probs some twenty-somethings, but that’s not me! I’m a forty-something middle school teacher in the beautiful (and rainy) PNW. I teach science for our one of a kind STEM program. If you want to know more I can talk for days about it. Just message me! It’s a lot of fun and super challenging, but we’re doing cool things. I spend half my day teaching 7th grade and the other half teaching 8th. This is my 16th year teaching in the same school district where I went to school. In fact, I’m teaching in MY middle school and there are teachers who were mine who are now my colleagues. Love our small town community. I love science (obviously) and space science is my ultimate fave. I’ve been to SEEC at Johnson space center AND this summer a colleague of mine and I are presenting our rocketry summer camp at Kennedy! OMG I’m so excited and I hope🤞🏼to see a rocket 🚀 launch! 🙏🏼I’m also a wife to my amazing husband (who teases me about my nerdiness pretty regularly) and mom to our 20 year old college student daughter and an almost driving 15 year old son. Anyway, tell me all about YOU!!!
It's the middle of the school year and I find out my kid is still struggling with math. Parents, if you're like me...sometimes trying to help out frustrates both of you. Even, reviewing their study material can appear foreign. My phrase..."CHILE I WASN'T TAUGHT THIS IN SCHOOL" 😒 Well, I have a solution parents! My child retested and passed with one tutoring session with @hi_leigh🙌 If you're in the Houston area, have a kid that's struggling in any particular subject and need affordable prices DM @hi_leigh or inbox her at email@example.com

“It takes a village.” In our 30 years of parenting, we’ve heard and experienced the truth of this phrase. Whether our boys attended private school, were enrolled in public school, or the many years we homeschooled, God always surrounded them with amazing people they could learn from. (Some more amazing than others, but lessons were learned either way.)😉 We only have our youngest at home now, and today, I am beyond grateful for the teachers and school staff in his life. Middle school is hard. Parenting a struggling middle schooler is hard. A favorite candle, hand cream, or cup of coffee do not begin to show how much we appreciate them, but I hope it’s a reminder of the priceless work they do everyday. I hope every teacher has a restful and wonderful Christmas break.🎄 If you have teachers in your life, thank them. They deserve far more than we can repay.❤️📚👩🏼🏫
Today at work staff had to dress up as their favorite Christmas movie character. Well my two favs would be the grinch or Ralphie and neither of those are easily done. So today I dressed up as a typical female lead from a Hallmark movie. See I move back home to my small town when the city life was too much. I never had time to fall in love again after my high school sweetheart. I always drink coffee and run into my old sweetheart at the local coffee shop. This is where he tells me he recently lost his wife in a tragic accident and is happy to see me. I think nothing of it until Christmas Eve when we run into each other at our local church. Our eyes meet and we fall in love again. We get engaged after two days of seeing each other but of course it’ll be happily ever after because it’s a hallmark movie of course. The end. You’re welcome. 😂🤷🏻♀️ #Christmas#ootd#ootdfashion#jumpsuit#hallmarkchristmasmovies#hallmark#coffee#movies#fitgirls#teacher#teach#middleschool
Two days until Christmas break begins and I’m enjoying watching my middle school elf as she becomes her own person. There may also be a little gnashing of teeth and rending of garments as preparing to launch a human is scary stuff. #middleschool#thegirlchild#christmas#parenting
