Man that felt good!! Haven’t done a lot of straight bodybuilding style lifting lately and was just missing it so got my pump on today. 💪🏼😅
There is something about pushing limits with weights that just invigorates my soul. 
I have to admit I was a little disappointed that were about 50 men in the weight room today and 2 women including me. Where my girls at?! I want to see more women lifting. It’s sooo empowering to feel physically strong as a woman. And building muscle will free you from the endless cardio trap bc you’ll speed up your metabolism! The best thing I ever did for my physique was decreasing cardio and increasing resistance training. Lift ladies, lift!! This lovely lady was a CHALLENGE @ one point! 😂😂 Not b/c she was trying to be difficult, but b/c her weight loss was. 😬

During daily check ins she kept spelling out how she was following all fat burning appropriate behavior, staying on track w carb feasts, yet no real downward movement was happening according to the scale or her clothing. 
What the heck?!? I even got to a place of disbelief about what she was telling me 😱 as the formula that we use for fat burning WORKS.

So there are many answers to the question, "How do I lose weight?" and mine will simply be one of millions (or billions), but here are my thoughts. 
Step 1. Figure out how many calories your body needs to operate. This is your basal metabolic rate. You need to eat minimally this many calories each day. Your body will go into "starvation mode" otherwise and want to keep your fat that you don't want. 
Step 2. Figure out your daily energy expenditure in calories. This is based on activity level. You can view this a bit intuitively, too. Say you planned to go to the gym. You didn't. Well, now just eat at your basal metabolic rate calories. The more activity you do, the more you can eat without gaining weight. 
Step 3. Eat at a caloric deficit from your daily energy expenditure plus your basal metabolic rate. Say you burn 300 calories due to activities. Your BMR is 1500. You can eat 1800 cals without gaining weight. You should probably eat at 1600. So you lose some weight. 
How do I know my BMR? You can self experiment and see how many calories you can eat without gaining weight or you can use some equations (you can easily find them online or a calculator online or go to a local place that does these calculations like @5starnutritioncharlottesville, these equations do slightly vary as they're approximations). For daily energy expenditure I'd recommend an activity tracker to approximate that. Or go online for a calculator. Personally, I think calculators are less accurate with this number, so you should do some experiments to find your good number.

Most of the time I am the only woman in the free weight room. Why? Women need to realize that getting the body they want and feeling great requires muscle growth which in turn will boost your #metabolism. Food has always been important to me. Since I was a little boy you could find me in the #kitchen experimenting. My lasagnas were quite famous. Just like the total chaos I left behind. Sorry about that mom! .

Little did I know back then about the effect food has on the body. The times are changing though. I like to approach food in a similar fashion as I do #workingout. Work hard; get smart. You don’t need to starve yourself or surpress carbs to #loseweight or fat. It’s quite the opposite actually. You need to eat carbohydrates with every meal to raise blood sugar so your body will start making #insulin. Read about that. Insulin is considered to be the main #anabolic #hormone of the human body that regulates the #metabolism of carbohydrates, fat and #protein. Low insulin levels will get your body in a catabolic state where you’ll burn mainly fat and also proteins. Understand this process to be able to use it to your advantage. Feel free to ask me about it. I am more than happy to help you on your way 🙋‍♂️.

It doesn't have to be complicated when "Breaking Vegan" my former dinner meal for Fri/Sat was chicken breast, baked spud, and coleslaw - out with the animal flesh, in with the lentils, and done! - BOOM! and since then my portion sizes are way, WAY bigger as well.. #metabolism #scottabelfitness #coachscottabel
