There are over 2000 metabolic reactions in the body. Metabolism can refer to a HUGE variety of functions in the body. I’ll try to focus on only nutrient metabolism.

Metabolism is the process where chemical reactions break down macronutrients into free energy (calorie) to carry out various functions.

Metabolism can then break off into two categories; catabolic and anabolic reactions. It’s important to know, that BOTH catabolic and anabolic reactions happen simultaneously. They work together to break down and synthesize what is necessary in order for you to live.

An example of both reactions working in unison; carbohydrates and protein ingested, gets broken down into amino acids, and simple sugars (glucose typically) - this is the catabolic reaction. The amino acids go into the liver’s amino acid pool, and the simple sugars enter glycolysis. The product of glycolysis (more catabolism) is ATP (energy). This energy can then, in conjunction with protein, be used to synthesize (anabolic reaction) new muscle tissue.

The example is an overly simplistic example, but hopefully, it gets the point across; metabolism is anything but simple.

The point of metabolism is to produce energy via oxidation of carbohydrates, lipids, and protein to be utilized for biosynthesis, detoxification, muscle contraction, active ion transport, and thermogenesis.

Most common nutritional metabolic pathways are glycolysis, the citric acid cycle (TCA cycle), and oxidative phosphorylation (electron transport chain).

Vamos a aterrizar esta dieta en su uso exclusivo para la pérdida de peso. 🤔¿En qué consiste? 
Estas dietas consisten en comer 80% grasas, 15% proteína y solo un 5% (o 20g) de carbohidratos. Lo normal en población sana es una distribución de 25-30% grasas, 15-20% proteínas y 50-60% carbohidratos. Son dietas muy restrictivas en cuanto a frutas, verduras y leguminosas por lo que NO son para todo el mundo, ya que puede causar ansiedad por querer consumir harinas, dulces, etc. De hecho, son dietas que en su uso para la reducción de peso no se deben de seguir por más de 14 días por los cambios metabólicos que se producen. 🛑Se necesita incluir tantas grasas en la dieta que incrementa el consumo de grasas saturadas provenientes de aceites o alimentos de origen animal. ¿Qué le pasa a mi cuerpo?

💎Fats: We recommend eating more saturated fats from healthy organic meats, shellfish, butter, coconut oil, etc. Unsaturated fats from nuts and seeds, nut and seed oils, canola oil, fatty fish, etc affect pancreas, our cells and our ability to regulate our blood sugar. Saturated and even some monounsaturated fats are anti-inflammatory, they are precursors to all steroidal hormones and most importantly, help to slow down the rate at which sugar enters our blood from the carbohydrates we eat. We don’t recommend over doing it!-

💎Food frequency: Make sure you eat within 30min of waking, throughout the day and a snack prior to bed. But most don’t have an appetite, the reason being the body is in a stressed state. Eating smaller meals/snacks throughout the day (4-6) will put fuel on the fire, teach your liver to store glycogen, take the burden off the adrenals and support thyroid health. .

Amino acids in protein signal the pancreas to produce the hormones glucagon and insulin. Insulin stimulates your muscle cells to take up amino acids, and glucagon causes your liver to release stored sugar. As a result, blood sugar levels remain stable after protein consumption. I am now in ketosis for the first time in 4 months and I am going back to regular workouts. 
All it takes is a shift in mindset. A re-prioritizing of goals.
