I was well-aware that July August this year was going to be nuts 🥜🥜Two mini trips to the lake house, an engagement party, four birthdays, family in town, and a certification exam.
• • •
Yeah, I know. A lot. And while these are all SUCH fun parts of my summer months, they also leave me feeling emotionally exhausted.
I’m always real with ya — There was a weekend where I was THIS close to declining dinner out with my family. The ED voice was creeping in + trying to make a decision for me using fear tactics. “You don’t NEED to go out again for food and drinks.” The truth is ⁉️ My rational self DID want to go! And so I did 🤘🏼 • • •
I share this lil story with you for a few reasons. 1, because no matter how many years I am into choosing #recovery, I still struggle sometimes too ‼️ I just choose NOT to act on the thoughts. And 2, this emphasizes the importance of #self-awareness here. • • •
For me? It’s stress and chaos 👉🏼 When life feels “out of control,” that old ED voice tries to invite itself in to “manage the situation” through food and exercise. In the past, I would welcome it with open arms, and find myself going down a very rigid path of little enjoyment 🚫 And now? I do several things instead. • • •
1. IDENTIFY HOW YOU FEEL. Be as specific ☝🏼 as possible.
2. PAIR THE EMOTION WITH AN ACTIVATING EVENT. For example, let’s say we feel shitty about ourselves all night. We’re in a pool of self-hate and shame. Well, what were we doing yesterday? What about this morning? Perhaps we were scrolling mindlessly through our Instagram feed that is filled with generalized body types. Perhaps we found ourselves in a rabbit hole of comparisons. There is a DIRECT relationship❣️between how we’re feeling + “an activating event.”
3. REFRAME THE THOUGHT. Now that we’ve recognized our emotions are associated with an external event, we can CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSE to change the way we decide to react internally 💭 For example, “wow, these two months are SUPER busy. But, September will slow down. And these are memories + experiences I don’t want to miss out on.” • • •
How have you dealt with triggers?

This picture was taken just under a year ago and although my body shape and face are a little different now, I am still the woman in this picture.
I need to stop putting myself into a box of just being "Mummy".
Yeah I'm "Mummy", but I am also so so much more. I am humorous, compassionate, adventurous, fiercely loyal, I give even when I have nothing left to give and I care deeply about those around me. All I ask for from those around me is loyalty and a little of their time.
Little by little, pieces of myself I didn't know I ever possessed in the first place fall into place and things get better.
Mental health deserves as much time on it as physical health because it is, just as, if not more important to us in our tiny allocation of time on this earth 💖

An extract from “Essential help for your nerves - Dr Claire Weekes”:⠀
⠀
“Understanding nervous fatigue is the key to understanding the baffling experiences that make recovery from nervous illness so elusive - within grasp one minute, gone the next. ⠀
⠀
Understanding is the forerunner of cure.⠀
⠀
Nervous fatigue can show itself as one, or more, of four fatigues: muscular, emotional, mental and a kind of fatigue of the spirit, and these often develop in these order.⠀
⠀
That sounds straightforward enough, yet few people recognise it in themselves because their development has been gradual, so insidious. And yet, this development follows a consistent pattern which is the basis of so much nervous suffering. ⠀
⠀
Indeed, recognising fatigue as an important part of their illness can bring such relief to many, their subsequent recovery can be straightforward and simple. I said simple, not easy.⠀
⠀
A person can suffer from one, or all, of the four fatigues and not be nervously ill. It is only when they become afraid of the affects of fatigue and allows this fear to interfere with their life do they become nervously ill.”

as much as i love being busy, nothing beats taking the night off and having a good chat with a good people. I figure that my work will be there for me tomorrow, my statements and spreadsheets can wait, but the oppurtunity to visit with friends isnt always going to be there. Ive had this mantra lately of "you are exactly where you need to be right in this moment, and you are enough as you are" playing in my head on a loop that sometimes gets muffled over worries of not being good enough, or not being on top of my work 24/7 and you know sometimes you just have to chill out and be thankful for where you are. i have immense gratitude for my villiage of people and I dont want to be in a position where i take that for granted, ever. So for now, take time to stop and remind loved ones that you love them and appreciate them, and yourself too. you are enough as you are, and you will always be. 🖤🖤🖤

Mondays are definitely the most hectic days of the week for most of us. In the past, I would have wanted to come home, drop on the couch, and immediately start binge watching Netflix to forget about the day. .
.
Coaching has brought a different kind of joy to my Mondays. Now I come home from working excited to spend some quality time with our team on a group FaceTime. .
.
We learn and grow together and share what’s working for us so that we can be more effective coaches and help more people on their health and fitness journeys! And to top it off, my number one love language is quality time, so this is definitely making my heart SO happy until the next time I get to see them in person! .
.
.
Have you ever wanted to be a part of a community of supportive and uplifting women? Do you want to help people become their happiest and healthiest selves? I’d love to share my heart with you about health and fitness coaching and see if it could be a good fit for you! All you have to do is shoot me a message! 💙

There's something about eating natural that feels so...well natural. I feel almost calm and at ease knowing that I am eating something that came from the earth and was not necessarily processed.
Blueberries, for example, has shown interesting clinical research about correlations to brain cognition (a fancy word for how we think and remember stuff). A simple google of 'blueberries and brain health' might surprise you.

I am no doctor and am not giving medical advice whatsoever, but there's nothing like eating natural foods to calm my mental health. What foods calm your mental health?

Guys! Hi! 👋🏼 Here are 12 ways to make yourself happier! ☀️ @maxlugavere

🥩🤔 Now I know I'm going to get some hate comments for #3, but actually, it's a valid suggestion! A study of 1000 women found that those who consumed less than 3-4 small servings/week were twice as likely to have a diagnosed depressive or anxiety disorder as those consuming that amount.
—
👉🏼 While correlation can't prove causation, there were some strengths to the study that make me think the link is worth respecting. There was no relationship between other forms of protein, such as chicken, pork, fish or plant-based proteins, and mental health. And, women who consumed more than 3-4 servings were also more likely to be depressed. SO this is why I say "some"—because I think some is better than none, but too much doesn't seem to be ideal either! (ref: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22433903)

During my journey through depression, I felt a lot of emotions. A lot of it was shame. I felt like a fake- posing as this happy person with a perfect life. When I was able to let go of that delusion- only then was I able to accept true peace in my life. You will never be perfect, and acceptance comes from inside. You can only be as perfect as you can be, and you do not need to be accepted from others. Be you and love yourself deeply and truly- only then will you be able to see the light in your own life.

How do you decorate your work area? What are some creative ideas you've come up with? At #LoftHairSalon, the space is beautifully decorated. It's a wonderful feeling to walk into your work environment, and get inspired to work.
If you work from home, it's easy for paperwork to become a big pile. I like the idea of one day a week to get organized, and shred what's not needed, and file or scan what's helpful. #GetOrganized #OrganizingTips •

Day 4: The Best Possible Self (BPS) exercise can be used to increase optimism. The BPS requires people to envision themselves in an imaginary future in which everything has turned out in the most optimal way. Set a timer or stopwatch for 10 minutes, during this time you are to think about your best possible future self and to write it down on paper. Imagine your life the way you always imagined it would be like, your best possible self. Picture that you have performed to the best of your abilities and you had achieved the things you wanted to in life. While writing, don’t worry about grammar or punctuation just focus on writing all your thoughts and emotions in an expressive way. You may want to have several sheets of paper for this exercise. ⠀

MENTAL HEALTH MONTH - August 2018
ENTRY #4

There is a void which fills up my soul. There is a dull aching pain in my chest. I don't feel unhappy; nothing excites me; I feel blank.

I stare at the wall lizard across the room, crawling stealthily at its prey. I can hear the tick tock of the clock. The lizard calculated and sneakily crawls towards the fly, and SNAP, eats at it.

I do not react. I feel no sympathy towards the fly. I feel no hatred towards its predator. Life is doing the same thing to me.
It is crawling towards me stealthily and sneakily, encroaching upon my mind, and eating me up: not whole, but part by part.

I have no ears who will listen, I have no eyes that will see. I have no friends to save me. You say I need to save myself? Well, you only damage yourself more when you are struggling to not drown. .

If you never listen to another piece of advice from me, please listen to this: create a morning routine that lights a fire your soul and stick to it every single day. ✨
.
.
One way that coaching has helped to transform my life has been by helping me find MY routine:
.
.
🔹Spend time with God (lately I’ve been actually diving into His Word a lot more often and it’s been giving me insight to some questions on my heart)
🔹Read personal development (success leaves clues and personal and professional development help me to become a better person and leader)
🔹 Exercise (wakes up my mind and body and give me more energy throughout the day)
🔹Quality time with Brandon (we work daily to make sure our relationship doesn’t become complacent)
🔹 Check in with our monthly accountability group (these ladies add SO much positivity in my life and help me to stay accountable on my own journey)
.
.
Do you have a morning routine? I’d love to hear about yours too!

I wonder to what extent preoccupation with our bodies + the food we're consuming actually RESULTS with perceived "issues" to fix? 💭 Side note: this post is NOT speaking against anyone who actually has food intolerances or a diagnosed disease AND a foundational healthy❣️relationship with food. Notice the importance of the word AND here.
The pursuit of "health" DOES in fact have positive intentions ‼️ I mean, how awesome is it to feel more energetic? To feel physically + mentally stronger? To generally just feel more alive in our own bodies?
• • • • • • • • •
And yeah, food + movement of COURSE can play a crucial role in this. However, at the same time, we're constantly bombarded with messages 💌 about health that can sometimes [ ironically ] serve more harm than good.
• • • • • • • • •
There's literally a "fix" for everything nowadays. Or a newly discovered health concern with 10+ ways to "resolve" it 🤦🏻‍♀️ These "solutions" often involve pricy ingredients, a focus ONLY on organic/clean foods, and a heck of a lot of guilt + shame when we're NOT doing things that are "beneficial for our health." • • • • • • • •
Reality check ☑️☑️ there will always, ALWAYS be new detoxes and cleanses, and food solutions to "heal" all of our ailments and problems. There will always be new combinations of spices and superfoods that we're told to eat for their magical benefits.
• • • • • • • • •
Yet, if by eating these foods creates guilt around OTHER foods? If by using these "solutions" causes preoccupation with constantly researching the next best fix? 👉🏼 THAT'S when we may have to re-evaluate our relationship with healing practices as a whole.
• • • • • • • • •
Yes, gimme all the healthy fats in the world to help promote hair growth. Yes, gimme all the probiotics to help with gut health ‼️ However, if I go for a day - or even a week - without it? I'll be okay too.
• • • • • • • • •
So, when does "the pursuit of health" actually become UNHEALTHY? What are YOUR thoughts?
• • • • • • • • •
PS, respecting our bodies + minds was never meant to be so complicated.

Today I went into work as normal for 7am....a job I’ve hated for the past 12 months. I’ve suffered, from Work place bullying/victimisation during this time by egos trying to score brownie points because they’ve just been promoted. So today at 8:30am I’d had enough and walked out....I had a panic attack at my desk because the sheer sight of the job had effected me so much. Luckily for me I have something to fall back on but for me to get to this point takes a lot!! I’m a strong minded person at heart but the current situation as floored me to the point where I’m averaging on 3 hours sleep on the nights I have to go to work.....I’m going to go to the doctors as I’m clearly suffereing from stress, anxiety & other things like insomnia all due to a poxy job....no job in the world should make a person feel this way & this morning the mini breakdown I had was enough. x Don’t suffer in silence.....#stress #anxiety #mentalhealth #bullyingatwork #victimisation #depression #bullied #bulliedatwork #depressed #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthissues #mentalhealthadvice #breakdown #nervousbreakdown #anxious #anxietyhelp #anxietyrecovery #anxietyprobs

“I didn’t expect to be an anxious person.  I didn’t understand that the culmination of stress consistently pushed aside and ignored would have a compounding effect. I didn’t understand what was going on when I was on the verge of panic attacks for days at a time. Taking care of my mental health wasn’t a concern until I couldn’t ignore it anymore, and I think it is unfortunate that that’s what it took for me to  give myself the attention I needed. If there is anything I’m learning is this adventure is ongoing and I don’t have to have it all figured out right now. I’m still learning how to take the time I need and find those habits that promote my personal wellness - and that is totally OK.”

We haven’t been away on holiday for nearly 3 years. Mainly due to money but also recently due to my postnatal illness stopping us doing nice things. This time last year I hated leaving the house due to all the fear that it created and the risks that came with it that I would have to subject my little boy to. Obviously these risks were slim but as a mother I saw them as real risks. I am proud of how far I have come in my mental health journey, although not all the way there. I am also proud to be able to help/support other mums in similar situations. I hope in time my experience can benefit others to know that things will get better.

Understanding symptoms and experiences will at least relieve bewilderment. Also, with understanding one is less likely to become afraid of ‘the state one is in’.⠀
⠀
There are four simple concepts to follow to enable recovery from nervous fatigue and nervous illness.⠀
⠀
1️⃣ Facing⠀
⠀
Facing means acknowledging that cure must come from inside you - with guidance and help from outside, of course - but fundamentally by your effort, and this means by your facing the things you fear. ⠀
⠀
Recovery lies in the places and experiences feared.⠀
⠀
Facing also means not shying away from nervous symptoms for fear of making them worse. Shying away is running away, not facing.⠀
⠀
2️⃣ Accepting⠀
⠀
After becoming prepared to face, the next step is acceptance, and as acceptance is the key to recovery, we should be sure of its meaning.⠀
⠀
Acceptance means letting the body loosen as much as possible and then going toward, not withdrawing from, the feared symptoms, the feared experiences. It means ‘letting go’, ‘going with’, bending like the willow before the wind - rolling with the punches!⠀
⠀
When one goes forward this way into panic (into any of the feared symptoms), the secretion of the hormones (principally adrenaline) producing the symptoms is reduced, even if only slightly.⠀
⠀
3️⃣ Floating⠀
⠀
One should not try to fight the nervous illness. One should float. If a nervously sensitised person can become ‘supertensed’ with fear that he may stand immobilised, rigid, feeling unable to take another step forward. The instinct is to tense oneself further and force the way forward.⠀
⠀
Forcing means more tension. If the sufferer were to let their body go slack, take deep breaths and image floating forward without resistance, enough tension can be released to loosen muscles and be able to move forward, although maybe at first shakily.⠀
⠀
It is relaxing with action!⠀
⠀
4️⃣ Letting time pass⠀
⠀
Recovery, like all healing, must be given time. Understandably an nervously ill person can be impatient with time and wants immediate appeasement; but impatience means tension and tension is the enemy of healing.⠀
⠀

For a long time before I had my diagnosis, I was a difficult person to be around. Through college and university, I lost people I thought were my friends, friends who would slag off my behaviour, call me a terrible person, call me "crazy" and do their absolute best to outcast me from everyone I knew. I had an ex that left me because he thought I was too "depressing" and he couldn't be "bothered with that attention seeking rubbish" (yup - one of those) my behaviour was becoming more and more erratic but not one of them stopped to think there might be something wrong, that I was clearly not well and not in control of what was happening. None stopped to get me help, or stuck around to support me, understand that this clearly wasn't me. The reality was I was living with a serious illness, I was completely dissociated and not in touch with reality. But instead of having love, friendship or support I was bullied, hated and discriminated against. People living with a mental illness are sick, they are living with a disease they can't control, they aren't "crazy" or "evil" or "attention seeking" or any other stigmatising word used to belittle or demean. People who have been victims of child abuse, violence or assault did not choose for this to happen, deserve it in any way or are dishonest. As a person who has been in recovery, and have been part of such a huge and wonderful mental health community, I know now how wrong this was, mental illness, abuse or trauma is not something to be ashamed of and it's so vitally important to not give up on a friend who may be unwell or struggling with a mental illness. If you think a friend's behaviour has changed and you're concerned, do something to support them! Always be kind to one another, and always show support to the ones you love. I'm eternally grateful for the friends that stayed. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmatters #timetochange #health #love #loveyourself #dpd #psychosis #bipolar #schizophrenia #anxiety #deppression #ptsd #abuse #trauma #recovery #mentalhealthrecovery #mind #mindfullness #bekind #friends #friendshipgoals #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthadvocate #metoo

MENTAL HEALTH MONTH - August 2018
ENTRY #3

Promise.

It's dark in there, they always said..
A path forlorn that no one treads,
A misery that would rip your soul..
While you fought the demons in your head.

The weight on my bosom, too much to bear
Crippling every nerve, every cell with fear..
A helpless holler was all I could hear,
And do nothing, but stand and stare.

You'd find yourself in the dead of night,
Gasping for breath in its embrace so tight..
Clinging to the shimmer, still in sight..
That's when I promised A-Devil-of-a-fight!

Drained of that last ounce, are you?
It's almost done, my friend..
Guess I'll break the news to you,
You've found yourself again! (From a Depression survivor, to anyone currently battling the condition)

When I paint or draw emotions consume me until I spill them out all over a canvas. When I'm done and I never know when that is until it happens. I feel relieved. Glad to be at ease. I find comfort in letting go of those daunting emotions but also preserving them forever. I have a deep seeded attachment to my art. It is me. It's part of me. Or the me that existed at that time. It doesn't matter what I do. I never start out with a plan. I just start and the picture creates itself. The emotions determine thw style the content the intensity and the finished product. Sometimes it's only then I can describe the curious sensations that overwhelm me. But sometimes it's not enough. Nothing settles me. I'm awake but somewhere else. I'm alive but dead. I feel lost and not sure where I should be. I know who I am. I like who I am. But u don't fit into this world. An outcast by nature. A dreamer and a skeptic. I'm two completely different people trying ti live the same life. Dr jeckle and Mr Hyde. But then it's also not that black and white. There's every vesion of me in between. It's not one rollercoaster heading in thw same direction. Throw anxiety and hormone imbalance into thw bipolar mix and ur in for a hellish ride.

Thanks to everyone who have been here for me the past few days. Unfortunately, depression hits you when you least expect it. I'm always a happy girl, always laughing and smiling and messing around, having fun. But we all have our demons deep down, and mine decided to come out to play the past few days. And it's been hard. It's still hard. But I'm fighting through it. And your love and support has helped me more than I can put into words. I'm so grateful to have you all. I love you all, so so much. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. At least.. I can conjure up enough spirit to give you all a smile. ❤️

This is so sad what was this man going through did he have family to talk to did he feel alone these are reasons why you should always check on your friends and make sure that they're alright because you're strong as friends are going through the hardest times

You cannot afford the risk of allowing everyone into your sacred space without performing security checks.
This is not an exaggeration. Some people walk the earth carrying out the ministry of demons (killing, stealing, and destroying). In this world of easy access be different. Especially when it comes to letting strangers into your home and body.

Be wise. Pray for spiritual eyes and discernment. Learn to enjoy your own company. Don't rush into anything.
You are loved. I pray that the Father sends you people who carry out His ministry and purpose. That you're covered in the grace of Jesus. That you're invisible to those with evil intentions. .

There’s a new post on the blog about the strategies I’ve been putting into action to keep my anxiety at bay.
✨I can’t describe how much better I’ve been feeling lately - it’s wonderful to feel less anxious and more like myself. ✨Here’s to summer and fun times ahead ✨

Mental Malady:
Dear Diary, Why so blue? That big black dog finally caught up with you. Not just one but the whole damn pack and you're not quite sure how to find your way back. This isn't for pity, followers or responses of distaste but instead a hope that this darkness doesn't go to waste. "Such a tragedy!", "What happened?", "Why them?" and "Why now?" ... well to follow are my 13 reasons how. This isn't to blame, get likes or to bore because statistically this is something you shouldn't ignore. In Australia suicide is deaths leading cause between those aged 15 to 44. So maybe the following may help you, or give a different perspective to someone you know, and hopefully help support others not to make the decision to go. @elisabethlorn ~ Friendly Reminder: Awareness is one challenge, removing the stigma is another. Any direct, or indirect, negativity means you, yes you, are part of the problem. Stop. Think. Be part of the solution ~

Repost : @chronicallytiamia 🌸🌺🌷🌺 I just want you to know that , you are amazing. And if no one told you today you are beautiful. Believe me you are. I am positive that you are strong and that you are doing the best you can. Don't let negative people bring you down . I hope you know how truly amazing you are, just for being you. You are strong enough to finish today and you are strong enough to finish tomorrow. And you are strong enough to finish this week.
Just keep going , keep pushing yourself even though it maybe hard .I know it must be hard and you feel like giving up but don't , I believe in you. No one can do the thing you do. You are special , you are beautiful and you are strong. Don't let anyone take your happiness from you including yourself . I hope you are happy with what you see in the mirror because you were made in God's image and he doesn't make mistakes.
The things you are going through today are temporary . You will get through this rough patch I believe in you. Just have faith and be strong . I believe in you even if you think nobody out their cares, I care. You are loved very much. Again just remember that you have infinite self worth just by being you, you are worthy and nothing will ever change that.❤️❤️ #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #wdwsupportmentalhealth #ProKindChat #mentalillness #youarebeautiful #mentalhealthawareness #13reasonswhy #depressed #mentalhealthmatters #youarenotalone #useless #worthless #depression #EndTheStigma #selfharm #youareloved #youareimportant #mentalhealthrecovery #bipolar #youmatter #suicide #suicideawareness #hereforyou #worldmentalhealthday #semicolonproject416 #suicidepreventionday #18002738255 #builled
