Totally. Knackered.
That was anything but pretty but with 3 sub 6:40 5ks as part of that 13.5 run, I was very happy to nail all but one mile. That route took careful mapping as I did this workout 2 weeks ago and it was a hill hell disaster to pace faster. One of the 5k miles this morning was 6:43 but it was a hilly mile and Mile 13 I had to pee after last 5k and didn't pause Garmin 🤷🏻‍♂️ oh well... I am happy with this as I was daunted by the prospect of it. Always lovely to sync up with running friends for one of the 1k easy paces in between the 5ks. The weather cooperated, too. The low anchored band stretch is great for improving overhead range of motion as it effectively targets the upper back, shoulder and to some degree, the back of the arms.

Different companies have slightly different band tensions, and of course bands that have been used for a longer period may be slightly less effective than if they were brand new. Having this in mind with the relative awareness of your current level of mobility means that experimentation will probably be required to find what band to use and what height to anchor the band at.

Once you’ve anchored the band at an appropriate height for you, place the band in the palm of the hand of the arm you’re starting with and allow the tension of the band to pull your elbow up towards the ceiling.
.
Focus on keeping the arm close to your head AND your palm facing up to the sky (if you can’t maintain your palm UP, try lowering the band tension until you can maintain a strong position).
.
To increase the intensity of the stretch while in position, try taking a staggered step forward and simultaneously raising your chest up.
.
I suggest holding this stretch for approximately 30-40 seconds at which point I like to grab the outside of the elbow with my free arm and pull it towards my head while simultaneously driving that same elbow back out against the arm pulling it.

I am glad we have finally moved beyond neutral spine 24/7 and hip hinging to tie our shoes. But come on people, all these spinal “activation drills” everyone is doing where we are moving in so called different directions, looks like someone typed a direction into a computer and pressed enter.

Something I learned a while ago at the Movement X course: A good #stretch is one that is going to build strength in extreme ranges of motion, be progressive and unstable.

To perform the beginner Diagonal Stretch follow these steps:
A. Stand with your heels together but toes angled at 45 degrees
B. While imagining you are on a balance beam, step your right foot behind your left heel. This will put you in a lunge position with the front foot externally rotated while the back foot you are on the balls of your foot. 
C. Put your right hand on your chest and let the elbow relax on the body. 
D. Take the left hand and reach behind you: Start at the back of the right knee then mid calf and lastly heel. 
E. My patients are doing multiples sets of 10 reps with a 10 second hold on the final rep.
F. The more advanced variation is performed with the front foot straight.

All my #chronicbackpain patients get this stretch. The interesting similarity amongst all of them when performing this is, forget them being able to come anywhere close to touching their heels. They can barely balance in the starting position.
Everyone keeps saying they are talking spinal mobility, but no one is talking spinal mobility. ____ I am glad we have finally moved beyond neutral spine 24/7 and hip hinging to tie our shoes. But come on people, all these spinal “activation drills” everyone is doing where we are moving in so called different directions, looks like someone typed a direction into a computer and pressed enter.
