When times feel wild, life feels uncertain, or you’re stuck in overthinking, what do you do? You can’t force your way out of it, think your way out of it, or push it away (I’ve tried 🙃). When life is feeling too much, it’s time to simplify. Because we could worry about all the things that might happen, or stress about what has already been. But what if we just pause, slow down, and stay here in this moment? Because here and now, it doesn’t matter what has been or what will be. Here, you are as you are, you’re just in this breath, safe, soft, at peace. So as you pause and return to a few deep breaths, you shift from overthinking into feeling, from stressing to softening, from worrying to allowing.
Simple but profound, there is nothing as powerful as taking a few deep breaths. In the most overwhelming, exhausting times of my life, I have found respite and peace in a moment of connection to breath. Because each breath is only happening now, and now is the most calm place to be. So pause and stay a while just now—take three deep, steady breaths. Watch your internal experience shift towards peace, even subtly.
Breath is the gateway to presence, and presence is the doorway to peace. So don’t try to “fix” life or stop thinking or worrying—just breathe, and allow presence to offer peace. (It’s a good time of year to practice presence & peace. And whatever you practice you’ll get better at—so practice deep breathing, softening, opening. Give it as a gift to yourself as often as you can remember.) ♥️
Whilst home, there's no time wasted than joining my favourite bikram studio in Melbourne
Owner, Shaan Lim @bikramyarra is an incredible businesswoman, teacher, student and importantly a mentor to all her employees and members.
It really feels like a proper yoga community, a family built on strong community values and supporting members with their practice. -
I love coming here to practice Bikram. Also, this is by far the most impressive unit when they conduct their Inferno Hot Pilates classes!! I have never worked harder, had more fun at an Inferno Hot Pilates class than when I'm here. You kick all the London studios who mildly offer inferno!
Teacher Anna Castellarin just returned from Beijing Championships where she competed for Italy. Small world as she knows @kyha @almaniacolombo and Cintra Brown, to name a few!!

The festive season brings around a lot of imbalances in our lives
We spend a lot of time and money on buying gifts and putting ourselves into financial debt
A lot of energy is poured into making work deadlines and finishing projects before the break
Quite often we neglect our own self love practices whether that be, meditation, exercise, yoga, massage
Take the time and give yourself the gift of self love during this Christmas rush. Take yourself from fight or flight mode and into a state of balance and internal calm. Your body and mind will thank you for it
Remember, everything is playing out exactly as it’s supposed to. Don’t fight the current, flow with it and stay in your heart. Trust. Trust that you are supported and where you are is perfect. ❤️.
Oh yoga. Where would I be (and who would I be) without you?
I'm feeling extra grateful and inspired by you lately. Each time I come to my mat, you remind me of the miracle of the breath, that each inhale and exhale is a gift to be celebrated. You guide me to move intuitively and find spaces where I can soften, areas that could use more love. You help me release my ego and expectations, and emphasize that this beautiful life I get to live, is not actually about me at all. 〰️ photo @howsheviewsit #foreverstudent#melbourneyoga

You've got the words to change a nation
But you're biting your tongue
You've spent a life time stuck in silence
Afraid you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song
You've got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we're a little different
There's no need to be ashamed
You've got the light to fight the shadows
So stop hiding it away.

One of my favourite Yoga poses is supported bridge pose, or Setu Bandha Sarvangasana. Supported, because they’re usually towards the end of a class, when I can already smell #Savasana . And bridge pose, because it’s so relaxing and good for you. It’s the Rolls Royce of backbends - in my opinion - and it comes with many benefits:
1 - Calms your nervous system and alleviates stress.
2 - Stretches chest, spine and neck (just be careful not to move your neck when you’re in the pose!)
3 - Re-energises tired legs.
4 - Aids digestion.
5 - Reduces fatigue and headache.
6 - Can help with anxiety and insomnia.
Some ideas on how to stay grounded during the silly season (and always)...these are super simple and help orientate you to the present moment:
^ be in the natural world every day... smell a flower, look at the sky, feel the breeze, listen to birds...
^ breathe deeply & slowly
^ pause often
^ feel your feet on the ground
^ place your hands on your body and check in with how you are feeling regularly 🌿👌🏻

Any of my students will attest to my love of foot work.
Our feet our beyond incredible, yet we tend to neglect them 😞 In the studio we play with self-massage, standing on rolled towels, balancing on foam blocks and walking on our balance beam. All of these awesome activities help us strengthen our feet and mobilise the 33 joints of each foot (so many, right?!) This one probably won’t make it into the studio, but is my current fave for my own feet - standing on the shakti mat (aka the bed of nails). Tell me - are you giving your feet some love?! @shaktimats
LAST CHANCE 👏 to catch Josh at the studio tomorrow night before he signs off for 2018 and takes on a few new opps in 2019! Tuesday eve (tomorrow!), 6:15pm Slow Flow, 7:30pm Yin & Mediation. Can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon for @josh_blau_yoga_meditation in 2019! ⚡️
SURYA NAMASKAR A (4/8)
Chatwari 4 - jump back to chaturanga
There’s a lot to look at in this pose. A few of the main points:
🧐Press into the hands firmly, hold the tummy very strong.
🧐Before working on the landing straight into chaturanga, make sure you can keep a straight line from the heels to the head in the high plank variation.
🧐 Depressed shoulders are happy shoulders! Keep them far away from your ears as you lower yourself down. The trapezius and neck will get tense if you don’t.
Hello Monday. New weeks and definitely more challenges especially being so close to Christmas. My yoga practice teaches me to stay focused and prioritise things than need to be done. Love yourself and listen to your body always 🙏🏻
I've been listening to a wonderful book by @brenebrown #daretolead and she mentioned this incredible concept which I've just not thought about until now.
Brene is talking about how we have become so fearful of being honest about our true feelings that we have sterilised the words that we use to describe our feelings. In this example she's specifically talking about loneliness. About how dissatisfaction in work, for example, is often due to people feeling lonely. The sad part, is that people do not feel safe enough to share that loneliness is the root cause of their dissatisfaction, or their feeling of being overworked and exhausted. Rather people just tend to describe their emotions as a feeling of 'disconnection'. The problem with the word disconnection is that it is an umbrella term. It's a safe word to use. For as soon as we start using words like 'lonely' suddenly we are vulnerable. And we (humans) don't like to be vulnerable. 💕
I literally pressed pause on the audiobook and I have sat and pondered this concept for some time today. It made me realise that it's not that I'm fearful of facing vulnerability or honesty with regard to certain emotions, but rather that I can be quite lazy in actually getting to the core of what's going on for me. That rather than exploring if I'm feeling lonely or anxious or afraid, I just put it down to 'disconnected'. Which is a bit of a cop out.
Whilst this book has been wonderful to read so far, this was a poignant point for me which has really hit home. And I'm going to make a real effort to not only explore feelings and emotions in very 'unsterilised' language moving forward, but I'm also going to introduce more of these honest ways of talking (about our feelings) into my classes. Because once we can remove any stigma associated with exploring these vulnerable states, then we are much more likely to embrace them. From this place, change and the opportunity for moving forward in a meaningful way is possible.💗🙏🌟
