As architects we explain the importance of darker window frames to our clients as they allow the exterior to reveal itself, internally, in what the Japanese term, ‘shakkei’ 借景 or borrowed scenery.

Sometimes it’s the little things - though the platform kiosks at #FlindersStreetStation are only 1990s, there’s been kiosks since the beginning in 1910; but no more, they’re closed now and going to be removed to make more room on the platforms (even though the platforms have been just as crowded in years past too). They’re also replacing the green metal benches with stainless steel ones, adding yet another aesthetic to the rather messy platforms. Maybe they should just try restoring the instead of updating every decade or so ?
The @CityofMelbourne are progressing heritage protection for the Vault Sculpture, designed by Ron Robertson-Swann and installed in the former City Square in 1980. After initial community backlash, the #sculpture has been accepted and embraced by the art world and general public, representing Melbourne’s historic politicisation and response to public art.
Tea, anyone? This beauty, this iconic, heritage-listed beauty, was built in the late 1800s! You’ll find her in South Melbourne. She was originally used to store tea chests. Traces of the hydraulic lifts that made this possible are still present today. 🤓 ☕️ #melbournehistoricalbuildings
Our recently completed @unimelb Stables project designed by @kerstin_thompson_architects has made the shortlist for the 2018 Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Chapter Awards in the Educational, Heritage, and Interior Architecture categories. The new learning and teaching facility for the Faculty of Arts and Music is housed in the heritage-listed former Victoria Police Mounted Branch stables in Melbourne’s Southbank. The refurbishment has transformed the stables into 170 studios and flexible exhibition spaces. The 2018 Victorian Architecture Awards will be announced tonight! Congratulations to the team and good luck! @vca_mcm @donaldcantwattscorke @lovellchen

The Mag-Pie Shop is definitely one of the more iconic establishments in Collingwood. As an avid Collingwood FC fan (and a big fan of a cheeky pastry), I may be a little biased, but this is one of my favourite signs in Melbourne. I believe this is now home to a Vietnamese café which serves delicious Banh mi 🤤
