“Andar chal!” “Andar kyu ni chal rae?”
Why aren’t you getting in?
As we pack our bags to leave Nako, a voice breaks through silence, just like the sun found its way today, on this cold, shivery morning of November. Karma was already up, and helping his father collect wood for fire and water from the flowing stream when he saw us leave, and immediately followed us back to our car just to say Goodbye. .
It is that time of year in Spiti when you cannot expect waters flowing through taps at home, for most of it gets frozen in the pipes. You have to get it for yourself everytime that you need it, and everyday.
Through the time of my stay here, Karma’s energy and will power to help his family always surprised me. It reminded me of that internet video which explained Energy, Time, and Money in all 3 stages of human life. I could see a bit of myself in him (perhaps?), despite being on the second stage in life where time and energy starts falling shorter. This, 4 year something with a spark in him that was Infinite. .
As as he stared at me and shouted above words, I could only look back at the time I had with him. Maybe we bonded strong enough for him to recognise me next the time I’m here, I hope.
With due time, we shall see..
