"Amazement seized their minds,
No soul had ever seen
A knight of such a kind -
Entirely emerald green.
-- "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", A new Verse translation by Simon Armitagec
I love the Green Knight and he reminds me of the Green Man of the forest!!!
Another picture from the island Gotland in Sweden. 🍀 Happy Tuesday out there.
The city wall around Visby city center on Gotland. The wall is eleven meters tall and originally had 29 land towers and 22 saddle towers. Today, 27 of the land towers are left. The wall has made a significant contribution to Visby being designated as a world heritage site.
The oldest part of the wall is a defense tower, today called the Kruttornet ( gunpowder tower ) which was built at the city's northern port in the 1100s. Thus, it is the oldest, preserved profane building in the Nordic region. .
The total length of the wall are 3,44 kilometers. The Visby ring wall was restored during the years 1884-1886 under the guidance of architect Emil Viktor Langlet. .
"They called themselves the Nandor; and they became a people apart, unlike their kin, save that they loved water, and dwelt most beside falls and running streams. Greater knowledge they had of living things, tree and herb, bird and beast, than all other Elves."
