Oftentimes, once an athlete is released from physical therapy after a lower body injury or surgery, they are told by a well meaning surgeon that running is fine....just build up gradually. Or that they just need to increase stride length to stretch tight tissue.
To which I reply: bad idea
Running puts 5x +/- bodyweight into each leg with each individual footfall.
Therefore, we use crawling progressions to ensure the athlete is able to chain together the reciprocating movement that is the gait cycle with a slow, precise action that in turn creates a high overall demand on the body, as every muscle is active in some capacity. It also reveals mobility issues and glitches in motor control. This is our first go at the "panther crawl" as we get Z. back to full fitness for rugby 🏉 and life.
