Master of Science in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences Student Highlight - Rashmika Reddy ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I stumbled upon this course while I was looking for a dermatological intensive course as my interest lies in this field. I wanted a course that was medical intensive in subject and one that also provided me with research opportunities. Studying in the dermatology department of the Miller School of Medicine has been an unbelievable experience because everyday I’ve been learning more about the innovative projects each and every one of our professors and mentors are working on or have completed. Upon completing this masters program I wish to join medical school (hopefully at the Miller School of Meicine) in fall 2020. “
Master of Science in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences Student Highlight - Rebecca Quinonez, MD “I realized I wanted to go into Dermatology early in my medical training. For me, there was something so special and human about being able to touch patients on a daily basis, which differed from many other specialties. After graduating with my medical degree, I decided to come back to my native Miami and further my education by applying to the Masters program in SBDS. This program has challenged me in becoming a better researcher and clinician by broadening my understanding of the skin and all of its complexities. The faculty, residents and staff have created a fostering environment that have aided in my professional development far beyond my expectations. I am so thankful for their continual guidance and support as I take the next steps in my career. Upon graduation, I intend to participate in clinical/laboratory research and publish meaningful data that will leave a lasting impact in the field.”

"Since earning my BS in Health Science from Boston University, I’ve focused my career in pharmaceuticals, working as a Scientific Researcher and a Sales Professional. I am thrilled about the opportunity to be a part of the novel MS program in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences here at the University of Miami. My experience interacting with the brilliant and compassionate professors in the Dermatology Department has been second to none! Looking forward, I intend to apply my training in dermatology to the field of Aesthetics within pharmaceuticals."
Master of Science in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences Student Highlight - Colleen Gorman ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀“I did my undergraduate degree at UCF and was a research assistant in a neurodegenerative lab. The field of dermatology is why I decided to pursue medicine and I always dreamed of having the opportunity to perform research on hair, skin, and nails. As an applicant to medical school for the fall of 2019, I stumbled upon this program while applying to the Miller School of Medicine and thought what a perfect opportunity. By August of next year I hope to be a published scientist and future UM medical student. It’s an honor to attend and work at the countries best dermatology institution. I am forever grateful for the education I have gotten here and the future it is paving me. I am very interested in dermatopathology, skin microbiology, and skin cancer. The faculty here have gotten me involved in every magnification of dermatology and I am forever grateful for their mentorship. This is the best educational experience I have worked so hard for and I hope to make them just as proud.”
A few days ago I was slut-shamed by a girl in my entourage for sometimes wearing dresses and shirts showing clevage. She said it made her extremely unconfortable. At first I was taken aback by her comments. I have never intentionnaly wanted to make anyone feel unconfortable for the way I dress. My heart was filled with a mixture of sadness and anger. But today I woke up with a clear head. No one should EVER feel like they need to apologize for being who they are or for wearing what they want. Women are constantly judged by their appearance. I have often been told that I dont look like a "scientist" or that its surprising a blonde would want a career in science. This is reminder of how far I've come from and how hard I've fought to be where I am today. I will never let anyone tell me what I can or cannot wear or do based on my appearance. Sometimes I feel like wearing a dress and other days I wear a hoody and sweatpants. Thats who I am, so you better get use to it ✌

| Shadows Enlightening_Part B
Most likely, when you became a healer and a wayshower, you expected to face the dark, but you might not have anticipated that you would be constantly called to face your own shadow side.
The constant enlightening of your shadows is one of the big elements that contributes to the contradicting experience described above.
Especially because in the work of facing your shadows (that seem to enjoy the show), you may not always feel confident and worthy.
Somehow as lightworkers we are expected not to have shadows, what would be better is it we were expected to do our shadow work with great compassion and mastery.
Hilariously enough, many of us are expecting the same from our own teachers and healers,
and leave, run or speak badly when we encounter a teacher’s shadow.
I remember clearly the moment that I have seen the shadow of my teachers-
I felt shocked, shaken and a little bit lost, I can even say.
It would have been easy to leave, gossip, or complain.
Instead, I paused and declared within:
“I am here for Mastery, nothing less.
I am here to transcend all into light.
I am here to live light.
I am a master student/teacher/healer
And as such I have the privilege to learn from light
and the brilliant ability to learn from darkness,
as they are all divine, but simply appear differently.”
Once you chose a teacher, it is your job to learn from him.
A good teacher teaches also through his shadow
A great student learns from EVERYTHING!
In the last month, I became aware of too many stories of people who felt hurt by their guru, teachers who were excused by their students. I have so many things to say about that- the bottom line is:
1. 'Spiritual teacher' is that an easy karma as most people might think.
2. Your teacher cannot be responsible for your light life.
3. don't cultivate any victim consciousness.
What is pharmacology💊 ? This is probably the most frequent asked question I get. Pharmacology is the study📚 of drugs with the objective of understanding the interactions between drug molecules and drug receptors and how these interactions cause an effect. Is being a pharmacologist the same as being a pharmacist? No. Pharmacologists usually work in the lab doing research👩🔬 whereas pharmacists use the knowledge gained from pharmacology research to dispense medication 💉. I hope that clears things up 🙂
