It's a sad day for car enthusiasts as Maruti Suzuki recently announced they'll stop accepting bookings for an ultimate style icon for many of us - the Gypsy.
33 years into production, it never needed any major changes in the styling department. The only upgrades it had was shifting from 1.0 to 1.3 carb engine and then onto the 1.3 MPFI. Now with the new safety norms falling in place from March 2019, Maruti has no plans to make changes to add ABS and Airbags and have thus pulled the plug.
Having served the Armed Forces in India for decades (until recently when they shifted to Safari Storme), the Gypsy has a really special place in our hearts. It's the end of an era and if you want to get your hands on one, you can book it till December 2018. We sincerely hope that everyone who has been fortunate enough to own one, maintains it in top form like our jeepers do.
PS: This isn't related to the Jimny launch in any way since Maruti Suzuki had clarified earlier this year that they have no plans to bring it to India anytime soon.
