Demokratiforkjemperen burde hylles. Isteden begynner folk å tvile. Kjenne sinne over situasjonen nåtidens politikere har satt landet i. Det var ikke et Sør-Afrika med ulikhet og økonomiske problemer Mandela satt inne for. Han ønsket en fremtid for landets unge. De alle som er born free.
Remember when I went to South Africa to front my first @bbctravelshow? *gasp* It’s available to watch right now [link in bio]. Well, it actually came out on the weekend but I’ve not had a chance to watch it and got a lovely reminder earlier when a guy came up to me at the airport, my mouth full of pie and mash might I add, to say: “See you on the Travel Show, love your work”. Needless to say, day MADE and it’s slowly unraveling the rage of a ridiculously delayed @united flight #bbctravelshow#bbc#mandela#nelsonmandela#mandelacentenary#johannesburg#presenter#capetown#ilovetotravel
**An Icon Behind Bars**
One of the surprise exhibits at Southbank Centre's Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition is a painting of the great leader peering through the bars of his Robben Island cell where he served 18 of his 27 long years in jail.
The artist, Isabella Jennings (13), was nine years old when Mandela died in December 2013.
“I was inspired to do the painting because of Mandela’s life and the sacrifices he made for the good of others,” said Isabella.
“The festival was conceived to celebrate the significance of Nelson Mandela and the value and contribution of all people in society to make the world a better place.” It was inspired, she said, by Mandela’s quote: "Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
Isabella’s entry was curated and supported by the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK which raises funds for various projects notably the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg.
After the completion some of the child art works were sent to South Africa but a few were kept at the London offices of the Mandela Children’s Fund UK.
She is currently the art scholar at the James Allen Girls School in Dulwich.
The Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition opened in Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on 17th July 2018 in the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The exhibition, which runs through to 19th August 2018 along with various associated events, is jointly curated by the Apartheid Museum in South Africa, the Anti-Apartheid Movement Archives in the UK and Southbank Centre. The exhibition is free and the Children’s Trail is open to all school pupils

Newest Addition to our Archive: 1960's Diaries of Nelson Mandela on his trip through Africa
In 2005 Dr Garth Benneyworth (Sol Plaatje University) located a typed copy of Nelson Mandela’s original handwritten journal and notes in the National Archives of South Africa in Pretoria where it was stored in a closed collection. This is its first online publication by SA History Online. Herein may be a found a memory of the early years of the liberation and armed struggle anchored in the banning of the South African Communist Party(SACP) in 1950, the Sharpeville massacre in 1961 and the subsequent bannings of the African National Congress (ANC) and Pan African Congress (PAC). #repost @shamila.ramjawan As a MRS Johannesburg Finalist and Brand South Africa ‘Play Your Part’ Ambassador, I urge you to sponsor my journey with the Role Models Foundation so you can also directly make an impact in the lives of our people through your kind generosity.
Your sponsorship will not only help to change the lives of people but will also elevate your personal/organizational brand through great exposure in the various advertising tiers on offer.
A little goes a long way (donations from as little as R50,00 or those clothes that are lying in your cupboard unused for years) - any contribution will be appreciated. You are also welcome to sponsor me to get brand exposure (dress, makeup, nails, jewellery, hair etc). Please share this message.
Together we can fight poverty and become ‘difference makers’. Many thanks.
