(Rescued cow, Luna, has her ear tag removed after her successful eye surgery, read below for more and visit @totes.the.goat for other posts) ❤ never support dairy 🐄
Shared/reposted from @totes.the.goat: "Luna has been through so much.
She has gone through things that would break the strongest humans. She was kept in confinement for 12 years , completely blind, and her sole purpose was to have babies and make milk. She never spent any time with her babies - they were taken away as soon as they were born so her milk could be sold to humans. This happened at least 10 times.
The entire time she endured an uncomfortable eye condition causing irritation and itching.
What better way is there to celebrate finally shedding her past, than to remove the tag that was her final tie to the industry.
After 12 years she has been freed from her painful eyes and her demeaning tag.
Her recovery will take a few weeks but she’s got this - she is one of the toughest souls I have ever had the honour to meet.
Scroll to see a before and after of her face - stolen from @vegan_veterinarian"

Vicuña. Vicugna vicugna. #mammals#mamiferosdechile#mamiferos#vicuña#naturephotography#naturepics#naturaleza#natureza#nature#wildlife#wildanimals#wildlifephotography#Wild#chile#chileblogger#nikonphotography#nikond850#nikond850prophotographers
While in Zambia, one of the things we wanted to do was see the great straw coloured fruit bats migration (Eidolon helvum) at Kasanka National Park. We climbed up the ladders that led to the platforms in the trees at sunrise to watch them return to their roost. There were millions surrounding us! Between the mist rising, sunrise, and bats, this has been one of my most favourite memories.
On a side note, we had been mist-netting in Kasanka National park to provide the park with an inventory of their bats. We did not catch a single Eidolon!
Bats have often been persecuted and wrongfully blamed for viral epidemics, more recently the Ebola outbreak. This is one of the species that has been directly blamed for the deadly virus, but all tests in lab were negative, including after scientists directly injected them with the virus.
All outbreaks of Ebola have been restricted to one geographic region connected by rivers. Bats are capable of flying hundreds of kilometers and love flying along water. If bats transmitted all the deadly viruses they are blamed for, frankly we would all be dead since they can cover so much distance.
I have handled thousands of bats in my 6 years of doing this, and have had more than one occasion of getting bat crap in my mouth or eyes.. And #notdeadyet
This being said, I am vaccinated against rabies, a fatal virus which mammals, including bats, can transmit, and I have years of experience in both rehab and wildlife settings.
The rabies virus can be carried by dogs, cats and monkeys, and the majority of human transmission comes from street animals. If you are inexperienced or are on vacation, do not attempt to approach or handle any animals, no matter how cute they look. If the animal looks injured, contact the local wildlife rehabilitation centre. #notouchnorisk#kasanka#kasankanationalpark#batswithoutborders#wildliferehab#bats#batsofinstagram#chiroptera#batconservation#mammology#mammals#species#biodiversity#biology#zoology#ecology#ecosystems#nocturnal#wildlife#animals#mistnetting#ROMWPYON @ROMtoronto #harptrap#science#nature#surveys#echolocation#importantpollinators#migration
