Ladies, let’s talk about that time of the month...

So every month shark week arrives(as C calls it). And I don’t mean the awesome show on Discovery Channel. Here comes the bloating, pounding head and the cramps you never get used to. We still have to do all our daily responsibilities while feeling tired and irritable. We still have to work, clean the house and keep up with everything. Ay yai yai... So excuse me while I eat this delicious chocolate in my favorite house shoes, and completely cover myself in Dragon Time(a special oil blend made just for that time of the month). Flexibility or strength? How about a little of both. In my early yoga practice, I came to my mat to find greater flexibility, and I sure found it along with a major hip injury. Not everyone who comes to Yoga to find flexibility will come into injury b u t if you’ve been working towards looser muscles for awhile now (say 6-12 months) you might find more flexibility, or greater range of motion, by inviting a little more strength into your practice. After a lengthy recovery from a labral tear, I was forced into finding this strength and it changed the game entirely. My ego was certainly checked. I realized that I was trying to attain specific and advanced postures because they looked cool, I thought because I was a yoga teacher I HAD to be able to do this, and because I was competitive. None of these reasons helped me, in fact, they hurt me. Strength training has humbled me and now as I mindfully move, I’m able to work towards and find the lessons that the asana practice can give. #skandasana has been a posture that I used to avoid like the plague. It’s been on my radar for the past few months and slowly coming along... maybe one day I’ll be able to lift my arms, maybe not and that’s ok!
Nobody is perfect. No day is perfect. Some days are all the salad, meat and low carbs, but not right now. Right now is crumpets with peanut butter AND Nutella.
I just sat through the dentist appt with my daughter crying, pleading and sobbing that it was hurting. I couldn’t take the pain away for her, she was terrified and anxious. There I sat rubbing her leg telling her sweet words while feeling like a failure. Urrgh! So much sobbing, snotty clinging hugs afterwards and silence as her intense mind processed everything that had happened.

There are days you are so busy you forget to check in with yourself. 📈 Then in the middle of all the hustle you get a glimps of how Hashem keeps you surrounded with goodness. You blink and open your eyes and focus on the sweetest people who do so much for your community. They hustle, they take charge, they shake mountains, they donate, they inspire, they make people laugh...and they do it all with a shiny cape.
With all the June hustling going down- pretend you are in a game of freeze dance-(you hear the good song on? ) IT STOPPED🔕 now you can freeze- FREEZE🤚- give 1 person a hug- or see the beauty in nature around you- give a kind word- or just look up and simply say 'Thank you Hashem for the air I breath today'.
