Q&A with Cold River
Q: I got my tickets to the “Make Mine From Maine” event, hosted by Eat, Drink, Lucky and the Maine Distilling Guild! Is Cold River part of the guild? What does the guild do and why is it important?
A: We do belong to Maine Distilling Guild! “I believe that Maine could lead the country when it comes to craft distilling, the time is ripe. The revolution in craft spirits has already begun but it’s up to us to ensure the trend continues, the future of craft distilling hinges on cooperation between producers.” says Chris Dowe. ...
The Maine Distilling Guild, helmed by President Ian Michaud of @liquid_riot , Dowe and our fellow distillers have presented to Congress and want to change the way Maine deals with small craft distilleries like Cold River. In 2018, the guild will look to other successful states for guidance in drafting new legislation to ease the burdens. Distilleries in Maine are now able to set up on site retail locations and tasting rooms, which Luke Davidson of @mainecraftdistilling says is new for the state, but the selling process is still burdensome for a growing company. “We have to drive our product up to the State’s warehouse, sell it to them and then buy it back on the spot, and bring it back to our store to sell it out of our store,” said Davidson.
Running a small business in Maine takes a lot of tenacity, hard work and of course an exceptional, locally-sourced, Maine-made product. So yes, it’s up to Dowe, Michaud, Davidson, (not to mention the other 12 members of the growing guild) to make change, but most importantly it is up to our very loyal consumers to “Make Mine From Maine”. Thanks for all of your support! Cheers! 🍸

Kicking off the weekend with Organic Barrel Rested Gin, our eighth spirit to date! Batch 1 bottles go on sale tomorrow, October 6th at high noon. And on Saturday, October 7th we will roll out a new tasting room menu showcasing a handful of fresh cocktails.
What else makes Hardshore Original Gin unique? Rosemary. This herb is a fickle mistress. On the nose: evergreen, but after distillation those spruce notes yield to a curious, almost-citrus flavor that lights up summer cocktails. Wish we could claim genius on that one, but this discovery was just a happy accident. #gin#rosemarysbaby#rosemary#botanicals#makeminefrommaine#hardshoredistilling
