It takes a special kind of team to pull off the outrageously hilarious and awesome stuff that went down on and off our stages at Electric Forest. Thank you to all those who came out and played with us! Photo from Stuff article 2017- SOME OF YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS ABOUT ME but I have been an art tutor with prison inmates at Canterbury Prisons for the last 8 years. This week is my last week and I feel a sense of sadness but also excitement for the new adventures ahead. I have been involved in many awesome projects over the past few years with Canterbury Prisons where prison artists have raised money from their art and given back to their communities especially after the Christchurch earthquakes. We have worked with Pillars, an amazing organisation that looks after young children with parents in prison and I have also worked closely with prison artists using art to create spaces with murals in the prison where inmates feel safer such as in the At Risk Unit and where inmates have learnt a skill such as carving, painting and welding that they can take with them on release. I will continue in my role to provide access to the arts for people who might not necessarily be given the opportunity . I’m looking forward to working closer in the community. It is a great feeling to be part of an arts culture that can bring so much confidence and pride into people’s lives, a small step that can help in their journey of change. When an opportunity comes along , take it. You never know where it may lead you..
