I’ve been OBSESSING over three unfinished paintings. They’ve been eating away at me for two weeks. Then I happened to run across an interview with David Byrne on not being afraid to fail. I’ll say that again because at my core, that’s probably my biggest fear. Failing. But sometimes things just suck and you have to slog through them to level up. This portrait of Mr. Byrne is in no way a level above where I *was* painting a couple of weeks ago, but there’s a freedom I found today because I remembered that failing is part of growing. Evolving. Progressing.
Instagram is a pretty public place to have your growing pains but I suppose that’s where we are in this modern world. Anyway. This is what I’m working on. Another painting and another chance to let go, not beat myself up and continuing to TRY NEW THINGS. #davidbyrne#talkingheads#painting#portraitpainting#dowhatyoulove#fuckfear#makeart

"As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unself- consciously to the soughing of the trees." ~ Valerie Andrews
