#day19 : More excerpts, ft. no beard, double chin, and the sounds of @high.koalaty playing Zelda if you listen closely. On the menu today is Mahler 2, specifically a passage that is nerve wracking for many reasons, not the least of which is the key of E flat minor. Still working on consistent articulation and rhythm, as well as how to do the stringendo in an organic but accurate fashion.
Another wonderful choral rehearsal with maestros Bernhard Gueller and Alex Fokkens on Mahler Second Symphony. Such complex music and yet so simple and to the point. Incredible how we go from the rattle of rough rehearsal to moments of transcendent muaic making in performance. The process of making music is constantly exhilarating and enriching. Can not wait to hear soloists Bongiwe Nakani Mcetywa and Goitsemang Oniccah Lehobye add their magic.
Since today's Gustav Mahler's birthday, here's the finale from his Symphony No. 2 'Resurrection' (strongly recommend it). Piano is playing the orchestra reduction and cellos the choir parts. Apologies about the intonation at certain points, but in my defense, the soprano part is reaaally high and tomorrow isn't Mahler's birthday so it had to be done today
„Grenzenlos“ - das Motto unseres letzten Konzertes in dieser Saison. Gleichzeitig ist es das Abschiedskonzert unseres GMD @christophmathiasmueller. Mehr als 300 Choristen und Orchestermusiker lassen dazu morgen um 19:45 Uhr die Stadthalle mit Gustav Mahlers „Auferstehungssymphonie“ erbeben. Die Generalprobe war schon ergreifend, das Konzert wird es erst recht!
Last evening brought some more Mahler and Whisky worship! DSO Berlin performed Mahler's 2nd symphony with Kent Nagano. After good performance I thought that, now I need some good whisky. Had read about this Union Jack Whisky Pub in Berlin, so I took a cab and headed there.. The atmosphere in that pub is just amazing. The staff is serious about whisky and the bottle collection is really good (photos show only small part)! Service was great , had great evening with few good drams! Photos of single bottles is what I took😍 Highest recommendation! #mahler2#classicalmusic#whiskytime#unionjackberlin#strathisla#lagavulin#ardbeg#crazycultureweek#summerholiday
I had the privilege last night of getting to see the VSO’s season finale concert, which was also conductor Bramwell Tovey’s final concert as music director of the VSO. Congrats to all who were involved, it was an absolutely stunning performance.
I shall soar upwards
To the light which no eye has penetrated!
Die shall I in order to live. - Gustav Mahler
We have all been resurrected tonight through this great symphony with the joyous hearts. What an honour be to a part of this epic journey and farewell to Maestro Bramwell Tovey. Thank you so much for the last 18 wonderful seasons and bringing great music to Vancouver! (I have completely lost my voice after 3 nights of concerts)
