SHE'S EMMAZING | Here's our Environmental Projects Analyst Emma, being a total bad mamma jamma, walking on water like she does, that very same water that she works so hard every single day to protect. .
The majority of Emma's responsibilities are in Watsonville's Public Works Water Resources division where she delves into science, swims in project management, and deep dives into data and GIS (#nerdalert ). She's also collaborated on a multi-year restoration project at Pinto Lake, supports our stormwater pollution prevention program, and she can drive a boat like it's nobody's business. .
So how did we hook such a keeper?! Well Emma enjoys that this work keeps her on her toes, quick on her feet with that fancy surfer footwork she's known for. "I learn something every day! Whether it be from my immediate co-workers, inter-agency colleagues, or our residents, I appreciate that everyone has something to teach me."
She's a shape shifter. One minute she'll launch into a conversation about the importance of preventing single-use plastic pollution. Then the next minute turn around and she'll be strapping on muddy boots and waders, readying herself to sample water quality. Then poof, she'll be back at her desk, snug as a bug in a rug, pouring over her beloved Excel files, Einstein-style.
During her free time you can find Emma surfing (obviously), traveling around the globe and back to her native Hawai'i, and hiking around our beautiful Monterey Bay forests and coastline with her husband, whom she'll tell you is "my best friend, and there's no one else I'd rather do these activities with!" DAWWW. You are amazing, Emma!
Mahalo Nui, Maui!! You filled the container to the roof!! Huge mahalo to our coordinating team of Mahina, Ezekiela & Tiare and the shipping sponsors. The team of volunteers was incredible—smooth teamwork, smiles and gratefulness for the tradewind breezes. The volume of donations across the spectrum of Maui residents was so wonderful to behold. From former hurricane Iniki survivors, kids, people who thought we were selling hamburger plates who donated cash, retirees and so many more. Thank you also to the folks who dropped off food for the volunteers—Kyle, Tai & Kim Kawakami of @mauifreshstreatery , Krispy Kreme and the drive by pizza delivery by Kalani Kamai. Maui is truly no ka oi! Truly the aloha lifestyle.
Maui ʻohana, the #KokuaPuna donation drive is happening now until 4 pm. They need volunteers to help with the overwhelming generosity of donations that are coming in. Kahului shopping center by Burger King. Even if you can only stay for a little while, all help is welcomed. If you can’t volunteer, please consider bringing something from this list to help our Puna ʻohana.
When one struggles with mental illness, suicide is NOT a choice. When mental illness is involved, there is no control. I know from personal experience.
R.I.P. @anthonybourdain great culinary influence. Unafraid to be "him". Unafraid to analyze himself, and recognize his faults, while pointing out other's strengths. Real recognize real. #MAHALONUI
