For the first time I had 2 young assistants who played a whole program together with me and surprised me very much. Big praise to Romy and Elias for moderating and conjuring without stage experience in front of 1000 people😮
Simple steps you need to follow to have your candle work for your purpose:
〽️ Never blow off the magic candles.
〽️Do not cut the magic candles. If you’re cutting them to remelt and reuse their wax again then it’s fine, however it’s not recommended to cut and light the parts of the candle.
〽️Choose the size based on the ritual and your ability to watch the flame.
〽️Candles. The color varies based on the ritual and its attributes. For instance if your working with runes then use white or yellowish paraffin candle.
〽️The vessel. Many of our candles require a very large bowl to prevent wax from overflowing while melting, and generally keep your candle in a relatively wide bowl to ensure safety.
〽️Cover the altar area with a cloth. This is to prevent floor and other surfaces from being damaged by wax.
〽️Have your gifts for Gods ready. Christians have their icons, others prepare fruit, money, etc.
〽️All your prayers should be written on separate sheets of paper. Try to learn them by heart.
〽️It’s best to do the cleansing and rituals during the waning moon. Male days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Female days: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday.
One of the most inspiring things for me as a writer is just walking around a city - it doesn't have to be London (although The Firelighters is based there). I've lived in Manchester, Leeds and York and all those cities have become part of the city I've created in the FL.
In these pics are some shop fronts from London - one being Mina Lima in Soho, a paradise for Harry Potter lovers and book lovers alike, and the other being Marchpane Children's bookshop on Cecil Court off Charing Cross Road (the real inspiration for Diagon Alley if you believe the tour guides) - a beautiful, whimsical shop where books are old and battered and loved as they should be, guarded by a dhalek and where i spent half an hour talking to the lovely gentleman who was working there. The street pic is Cecil Court itself, a street brimming with bookshops, galleries and antique shops. It's well worth a visit.
Well it's map Monday so i thought I'd share a map from my notes on The Firelighters. This is a map of all the key locations from A Spark Of Fire.🔥 The Magistry is a term for the city of London and its magical citizens who are ruled by the Firelighter - the leader of all magicians.
The book sees Felix Spark adventure through the streets of the Magistry, slipping past COPPs at the Borderlock, witnessing the madness of Houdini's at Piccadilly Circus and hearing of the horrors of the Tower Of London!

So today is my birthday (and I'm now too old that it feels right to say that a lady never reveals her age!! Haha) But it's also my main character Felix's birthday today! In the book, she turns 16 at the start of the novel on August 12 (making her exactly half my age!) So Happy Birthday Felix!! My gift to you is granting you the audience you've always demanded. I'm setting you free, girl! I hope people love you as much as I always have.
Featured in this flatlay is a teeeeny sneak peak of a special new candle @ashandquillcandles It's STUNNING and deserves a post all of its own...

I had to earn the right.
But they’re starting to see my might.
Starting to notice the stars
Shining for me each night.
Each moment I’m closer
To my queendom of fire
And each time I light up
You’ll see my hunger and desire.

Researching my next book obviously means new books!
The Firelighters is set in London, though it's a little different to the London we know and love. Piccadilly Circus is a real circus, the city has grown upwards because it could no longer grow outwards and it runs on steam and magic.✨ But even better is Under London...where sewer pirates lurk, mudlarks swoop down upon their prey and the medieval market is the best place to go for a little Fleetwater and a secret or two.
Books I bought today: Londonopolis: a curious and quirky history of London by Martin Latham and London Under by the legend that is Peter Ackroyd to add to my book on The Great Fire of London (By Permission of Heaven by Adrian Tinniswood) and the guide to the Tower of London.
How do you conduct your research for your stories?
The lore says, if you stare at this picture long enough, you’ll be magically transported into its fairytale realm, where animals talk and your prince(ss) awaits you, in a land far far away from the hellish heat that, I’m guessing, you’re dying in right now.
25 years ago God gave me a glance of my future husband. 25 years ago Nick and I met for the first time. 🌟
Every year for years we would go on family trips. I always had a HUGE crush on Nick, but was too young and shy to do anything. Life got busy and we went years without seeing each other. We were on completely different paths. 🌟
We both believe God ordained the perfect time for us to meet up again 5 months ago. Right away all the feeling I had for nick came rushing back. 🌟
Since that day he never stopped pursuing me. After lots of phone calls back and forth we decided to make a long distance relationship work and we have ever since.🌟 It took me ONE week to fall madly in love with Nick. I knew he was the one my soul needed all this time. It was the weirdest, craziest most insane yet most magical feeling. We both still cannot quite describe it. 🌟
I cannot express the gratitude I have had these last few months. I have never been as joyful in my life as I am today. #engaged#myonetruelove#mrandmrswaller#childhoodsweethearts#fairytales#fairytalesarereal#magicexists

The wild white horses of the Camargue, Rhone Delta, south of France. Back in my student days, I hitchhiked to St Marie de la Mer, where the Rhone River meets the sea, to attend a Gypsy festival honoring Mother Mary. The inns were full, the town full of drunk gypsies, always a dicey situation. I found a small park on the back side of the village, which fronted the marshland of the Camargue. This remote spot felt a lot safer than the village so I slept on a park bench, under the leafy branches of an overhanging tree, clutching my buck knife for protection against potential gypsy marauders. I was alone in the park. During the night I was awakened by a strange rustling noise. Terrified, I didn't move a muscle, but just opened my eyes to see the branches above me swaying back and forth. I thought, 'What the...', and then a huge white head emerged through the leaves. My heart began to race. First one head, then another, and another. All accompanied by a chorus of neighs. It was a herd of white horses! They had quietly swept up out of the marsh and were eating the leaves of the trees overhanging my bench. I didn't move, I just watched in wonder as these magnificent creatures stood all around me, grazing....but...also...somehow protecting me from the scary shadows howling from the town out there in the dark. These horses were majestic, magical, and after their bellies were full, they trotted back into the marsh. After I lost sight of them, I could still hear them splashing away in the wetlands of the Camargue. After they left, I was no longer afraid, it was as if the horses had cast a magic spell of protection around my little park, much like the Wizards did at Hogwarts for protection against Voldemort in the Deathly Hallows finale film. Those horses protected me, and I will always have a soft spot for them in a very magical part of my soul. Magic exists.
‘As above so below’ let’s talk magic. If you haven’t heard the above phrase google it. In a nutshell: The concept was first laid out in the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus: "That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above, corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracles of the One Thing." ie we have the power to perform miracles in our life by KNOWING we are all interconnected, interconnected to the Cosmos, each other and all that is . Our thoughts can change our reality and also our actions. When we shift patterns and beliefs reality shifts. We can become a calling beacon for our desires. Simples right? Well of course it can be challenging , we have a world of others influencing us. However magic resides inside all. Hunt down your beliefs and actions and whittle them into healing spells. Kindness is a super power to magic starting with being kind to yourself and also others,as fundamentally we are all one ( avoid dickheads that trespass our boundaries or mess with our magical mojo though 😂 send them love and move on) try believing in magic today. The magic of you! #witchesofinstagram#asabovesobelow#crystals#magicexists#wildwomen photo by @theseadiary
The Firelighters Book One: A Spark Of Fire has been a part of my life for a very long time.
It's near enough 17 years since I had the basic idea and since then it has changed, evolved and grown and much as I have.
It is a piece of me; in fact it's several pieces of different parts of me from over the years!
A lonely teenage me is written in to Felix in her despairing moments. The version of me falling in love is in the Felix who feels the first fluttering a of romance...and the strong, independent Felix is the me that I've grown in to. The Mother in me is in Nanny Maude and the flaws of me are found in Fiddle.
This book burns in me and i burn within it.
That is why it is with such fierce, fierce pride and joy (and admittedly, terror) that I am able to announce that it will be PUBLISHED in November 2018...just in time for Bonfire Night!!🔥 Thank you to Lisa at @greencatbooks for seeing a spark of something in this book.
This is a dream come true.
