photo by @andrea_frazzetta // An aerial view of the Nosy Iranja Island and its famous white-sand beach.
Nosy Iranja is located north-west of Madagascar, 45 kilometers (30 miles) from Nosy Be. Nosy Iranja is actually formed by two islands, Nosy Iranja Be, the bigger one and Nosy Iranja Kely. Those are connected by a sandbank, only visible at low tide.
On Nosy Iranja Be there is a small fishing village and a lighthouse designed by Gustav Eiffel. The island is also the breeding place for two species of turtles, green and hawksbill. I can't say meeting this boa constrictor was my favorite encounter with wildlife. It's harmless to humans (or at least that's what I was told then), but I didn't feel quite comfortable when my guide picked it up and the snake started to move.
