White-lined sphinx caterpillar
When I was at Clark Canyon towards the end of last year, it still hadn't recovered from the wildfire 2 years ago, a black ashy wasteland. Now the area is blanketed in the first succession of shrubs and grasses proceeding the disturbance, and a large population of these beauties has taken residence. Witnessing a hawk or sphinx moth fly and feed has been a goal of mine, and I'm excited to go back and check on these guys. One day I hope to capture one mid flight with it's tongue that is two times the length of their body extended.
