Probably the most important event of this theatre season - documentary theatre installation by Álex Rigola MACHO MAN - is still on view in @teatre_gi as a part of @temporada_alta international theatre festival.
Stepping into the labyrinth of the multifaceted imagery of male violence against women you come out of it a changed person. A neighbour, a friend, a grandmother, a daughter...
“Do you know that more than half of the women visiting this installation suffered some kind of gender-based violence?” “Did you know that domestic violence is #1 cause of death among women from 18-45 years old?” “Did you know that gender based violence is #1 death cause among pregnant women?” “Have you ever seen or heard something that could be considered violence against women and not reported it to the police?” “Have you ever allowed a sexist comment?”
The horror of abuse doesn’t stop when the act of violence finishes. THIS is where it STARTS.
“I feel like I’m a zombie, walking the streets” “I feel like my soul was placed in some object, not human being” “Sometimes I just think it’s easier to die”
How can this be real in OUR society? How can gang rape be justified in Spanish court today?
“When did we miss it?” “What went wrong?” “We failed her” “Her husband killed her”
Look at the pictures of these women. These girls. Look at these disturbing drawings of children, who suffered abuse. Ask yourself again “What can I DO?” Go back to your life, do it. Go see the play first.
Many thanks to @alexrigola for organizing for us an adapted English-speaking version of the experience yesterday.
Happy Birthday to the #MachoMan Randy Savage
Randy Mario Paffo in real life.
I remember watching him growing up while sitting on my pa's lap. - Arguably the greatest #WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time.
