'The Trench Sweeper'
U.S. M1928A1 Thompson in .45ACP
An iconic and powerful submachine gun, the Thompson was widely used from the 1920's by soldiers, criminals, police agencies and the FBI alike for its large .45 ACP cartridge, controllability, and high volume of fully automatic fire. It has since gained popularity among civilian collectors for its historical significance. It has had, and continues to have, considerable significance in popular culture, especially in works about the U.S.'s Prohibition era and World War II, and hence is among the best-known firearms in history.
The Thompson Submachine gun was originally developed to replace military bolt action service rifles such as the Springfield 1903 however the only cartridge which could be used with it's action type that was used by the US Military at the time was the .45ACP which made it very underpowered compared to .30-06 rifles.
It would've been a perfect firearm in the trench combat of World War 1 however the War ended just before the prototypes arrived causing the Thompson to be not used in military service until the 'Banana Wars' and eventually World War 2 however it was widely used by law enforcement during the Probation Era. It was later replaced by the much more cost effective and lightweight M3 Grease Gun post World War 2.

I love you @gorillaz I love you #chicago thanks @garrettnutgrass @ritothe2nd for hosting me for this short and sweet trip, always an amazing time. I will miss you very much Gorillaz thank you for all that you’ve done for me #m1a1#murdocisgod#gorillaz
words cannot explain how incredibly happy i am that i was able to have a chance to see gorillaz in concert. damon is such a fantastic man with many talents, especially making the crowd feel included and engaged at all times—just like all of the talented men and women on stage. i laughed, i literally cried (twice), and i sang along until the very end. as a kid, i enjoyed gorillaz; as an adult, i enjoy them even more, and have a better understanding and appreciation for the band and what goes on behind the scenes. i can’t thank jamie hewlett and damon albarn enough for giving life to this band. they’re all a giant family, and it’s nice that the fans are a part of it. ( bit cheesy, but i’m running on little sleep. sorry. x )
Originally issued to non-combat personnel or those who needed a compact weapon, the M1 Carbine was never meant to be a front-line weapon, nevertheless it was ideal for Airborne troops for its small frame and its compactness. Carbines originally issued with the M1A1 folding stock were made by Inland, a division of General Motors and originally came with the early "L" nonadjustable sight and barrel band without bayonet lug. Inland production of M1A1 carbines was interspersed with Inland production of M1 carbines with the standard stock. Stocks were often swapped out as carbines were refurbished at arsenals. An original Inland carbine with an original M1A1 stock is rare today.
Have a shitty week? Let Gorillaz and a cast of amazing musicians lift your spirits and bring joy into your soul. Amen. #thenownowtour#gorillaznyc#m1a1 @gorillaz @damonalbarn @hewll @seyemusic @jeffwootton @remikabaka @wearedelasoul @yasiinbey @everett.peven @jamieprinciple @thepharcyde @smoggy_168
This is a still frame from a video I took in 2005. For context, the red lights in the background are the tail lights of an #M1A1#Abrams tank. This was during a night time live fire exercise in #kuwait . This image appeared in the film just before the tank fired, and exists on 1 single frame. I did NOT edit this image in any way. #ghost#ghostadventures#caughtoncamera#phantom
Battle Arms Development Tanker and Paratrooper. Modernized homages to the original wood/steel guns of WWII. The M1 Carbine chambered in .30 Carbine or 7.62x33mm created a compromise between the M1 Garand rifle and M1 Thompson submachinegun. After the M16 was adopted in 1963, Colt developed the CAR15 program consisting of machinegun, survival rifle, carbine, and submachinegun creating more prospects for the M16. Surviving CAR15 was the submachinegun chambered in 5.56x45mm with 10" barrel which matured into the XM177E1 and XM177E2. Rifle caliber submachineguns became a staple due to modularity with fullsize counterparts and higher penetration over pistol caliber submachineguns. The .300 AAC Blackout (BO) 7.62x35mm was designed for the M16 to provide more stopping power with shorter barrel lengths utilizing a .30 caliber bullet. The .300 BO doubles the bullet from 62gr to 125gr, burns off the powder at 9" compared to 12" on 5.56mm, and maintains more energy at distances up to 500 meters. Battle Arms Development Paratrooper and Tanker pick up where the XM177E2 left off. Designed on billet receivers with 7.5" chromoly barrel encased by matching MLOK handguard finished in olive drab. Forearm and grip are French Walnut with matching cheek piece for wood/steel charm. Stock combines features of CAR15 SMG engaging directly with receiver and M231 Port Firing Weapon utilizing a wirestock surrounding the buffer-tube. Stock is composed of spring-loaded four-position telescoping rods made from S7 tool steel and is monolithic with receiver on the Paratrooper and separate on the Tanker with stationary cheekrest and solid endplate to provide positive engagement. Trigger is the revolutionary frictionless 2.5lb Triggertech operating on rollers not engagements while all other controls including magazine release, bolt-catch, and selector lever are fully ambidextrous. Available chambered in either 5.56mm or .300 BO.
