My Mamma taught me to never take candy from strangers. But running fast down a quiet street on a route I take several times a week, a flash of gold caught my eye. A friendly/creepy older gentleman had pulled something out of his pocket and tossed it to me over the curb. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not a medal celebrating my commitment to #runch in the heat. Not a gold coin rewarding my fabulousness. It wasn’t even a partly melted fun-size Snickers. It was a sugar free Wether’s Original. (Lemme pause here for a moment and ask.. if it’s truly an original, can it be sugar free?!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ My friends will tell you that I’m a fairly care-free, don’t worry-be happy kinda gal. However, instantly images of myself laid-out, drugged-up in the street filled my head. I had just run 3 minutes as hard and fast as I could. My surplus energy was spent! I should have got up a bit earlier when it was cooler the clouds deceived me! I’ve been slacking this week and with the temperature and humidity I really struggled today! Walked more than I wanted and didn’t manage the distance I wanted 😩 Pretty disappointed in myself today but I guess it’s still better than lazing about the house and I got a personal best on a segment on Strava so that’s pretty cool too! Not quite sure who motivates themselves on a lunchtime run listening to Westlife’s Greatest Hits but 10 mins back and I’ve booked a half marathon so 🤷♀️
Time to get back on track with life goals! Not defining specific goals and achievements means my head has been in the clouds and I’ve not been focused, or determined, or on track with who I want to be as a person.
The three month training leading up to the London marathon I was a true reflection of myself - motivated, focused and more importantly, a clear mind and healthy body.
Here’s to 2018 focuses and taking back control 🌟
