I went out of my comfort zone and went heavy on the #kettlebell (I NEVER do 53#!) I thought... whatevs, nothing to lose but get stronger 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, I used a heavier and unfamiliar rope bc I lost the one I’ve had for 6 years! I thought ugh, I won’t be able to do double unders with this.

I completed the above with a heavy a$$ KB and rope I thought I’d fail using but nontheless pretty much did the DU unbroken!

Which reminded me... We tend to assume we will fail without even trying something outside of our comfort zone. Yet when we dare try and just GO FOR IT, we surprise ourselves and accomplish it!

PUMPED FOR BREAK. Tuesday is the start of Christmas break and I’m pumped to get back on the grind and get some motivating and quality content out for you guys. May attempt daily blogging but realistically I’ll aim for 3 YouTube video a week. Also I really want to make a 5-10 page eBook that answers many of the questions I frequently get. Also, I am almost on the final week of the strength program I have been running so I will update my maxes on squat bench and deadlift. I’m pumped to focus less on school and more on my passion. Let’s get it.

Short glute and hamstring workout tonight. Did all 4 sets at my previous max weight. Feels good when you make improvements! Someday I'm hoping for a 200lb pull! In time I'm sure I will. But the goal is to pull it safely, so I'll just keep plugging away at it!

TGIF and Happy Weekend Everyone!  Lots of stuff happened today which I could report on:  Oldest kid lost his 2nd tooth, saw the most amazing view on my morning snow run, got a great deal on lifting shoes (Who Am I?), and multiple mid-30 year old PRs in the weight room.  It was just a solid day that makes me appreciate how amazing things are.  Life is truly good.

Running Summary: I was able to get out and run on some snowy, icy, and wet trails today.  If you want to get an idea of what the conditions looked like feel free to take a look at my story.  I have a few clips of me running out there.  As you can see from my pace, I was not able to run nearly as fast as I typically would.  There were plenty of spots where I could have easily slipped, fallen, or even twisted an ankle. Lucky for me I was able to finish the run strong and without any negative incidents.

Lifting Summary:  So lifting started off with me feeling pretty weak, but I was able to rally and knock out some great AMRAP sets.  For Deadlift I knocked out 315lbs for 10 reps and for Bench Press I was able to knock out 233lbs for 6 which was one more rep than I was able to get on Wednesday.  The rest of the workout consisted of block pulls and close grip bench press.  I am one workout from being done with my first cycle so I am excited to be able to give a summary of how things went before I start back on Week 1 of Cycle 2.

You burn calories even when you are resting.  Honestly,  I rarely do cardio, specially steady state. I go from a decline triceps extension (hitting lengthened and mid range) to a regular lying dB extension which overloads the lengthened. Knowing how angles and the tempo of can exercise can change up an exercise can be really beneficial for those working out at home with limited equipment!

Let’s talk about strength curve and resistance profile. Have you heard those terms before?

Strength curve- Each muscle group has a strength curve. That means each muscle has a point where it’s actually stronger or weaker.

Resistance curves- now, Each exercise has a different resistance curve. Meaning, it’s more difficult at some parts than others, right? The squat is hardest at the bottom and easier at the top, in fact at the top there is no resistance . So pleas stop adding in a hip thrust and getting out of neutral spine. Completely unnecessary as there is literally no resistance.

why is this information Important to those who design programs? Well it gives you a lot of power & the ability to hit muscles in an appropriate way. Choosing exercises based on a well rounded approach. Hitting lengthened during phases that require it more, or mechanical dropsets, or incorporating the shortened range to build neurological connections or creating more metabolic stress, or using certain exercises to pre exhaust another exercise for more mechanical damage. It can really open doors to good programming vs ‘I like these exercises’ type of programming. 🙌🏻

I know, I know... it’s hard to focus and fit it in this time of year. There’s so much going on especially if you have kids but if you put your health as a priority during the holidays, you will be taking steps forward and not backward. Face it... taking a large chunk of time off during December WILL move you away from your goals. I haven’t been perfect during the holidays. I’ve missed some workouts but that’s okay as long as a missed workout doesn’t turn into a long break. Don’t ever give up! Believe in yourself and do the work. Results WILL follow. 😘

Started a Olympic style weightlifting 3 weeks ago in place of a HIIT type program. 
I like the gain I’m seeing. Tried to hit the same pose. Might not be perfect but looks like some new muscles I see. 💪

A Question I'm often asked ❔ through my Personal experience the past 3.5 Years, Professional experience the last decade, and ongoing Education (see more below) is WHAT I would CHANGE or do differently - this Time around ❔ .

It's a Loaded Question! I'll do my Best to answer it through a series of Posts (stories in Pregnant Athlete Highlight ****) .

One Key thing that's changed (+) over my 1st Pregnancy is "Mindset" and Big Picture Thinking...Pregnancy is such a short "period" of my Training- a short Cycle - when I think about ALL the Years ahead & what I want to DO! 😊 #postpartumisforever .

In the 1st Trimester- mid Oct to early Dec-  Workouts were hit and miss, with some very high fatigue weeks 😴, food aversions/low appetite. Because of this &  less than optimal nutrition, I didn't push too hard in work-outs, rather just moved my body & fit in some short workouts. .

Some days, when I was feeling good, and eating better, I did RX a Workout. The focus in movement;  Then & Now- managing a Pace I can continue to talk at, Quality Breathing, connecting my Core and Pelvic Floor. .
Leaving my Workouts Feeling GOOD & revitalized, not drained and crushed! .

I love to Squat! 💜 💜💜

I've been enjoying Barbell Squats about Twice/Weekly thus far- into this Pregnancy... with a Focus on Good alignment, and Breathing Mechanics. .

Prior to this Pregnancy, my 1RM was 250#- For me, I'll keep squats under 70% or so (for now) to maintain good breathing mechanics, or less- depending on how I'm feeling. This % will decline as the Pregnancy progresses and belly grows. .
At 15 Weeks now- Breathing already feels harder & different! .

Before you start to analyze them both and decide which one is “better” let me stop ya right there. I’ll tell you right now the girl on the right is in a far better place and it has nothing to do with a physique. This is not a physical transformation.

I remember taking the picture on the left and thinking “this will be my ‘before’ picture next year.”
I had plans to lose more body fat, lean out my legs, look better, etc. etc.
Bottom line is I wasn’t happy with how I looked and I was going to fix it by being more meticulous with my workouts and macros. (as if that was possible 🙄)

The picture on the right (current) all I’m really thinking about is how freaking good that workout just was and I’m not really thinking anything in terms of what my body looks like to be honest 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s pretty weird when you stop tracking macros, start working out less, gain a bit of body fat, and it results in a happier, more confident person.
Last year, I thought what I needed to do to be happy was to be more “in control” and change everything about myself.
I never would have thought I would be more fulfilled in my life and with who I am doing just the opposite.

Turns out less worrying about food, workouts, and changing my body equals a more fulfilled Lexa via kick ass relationships and a thriving life in general.
I don’t judge my body. I’m not trying to change it. I workout because I love it. I eat in a way that satisfies me and is quite different from the meticulous macros I once tracked so diligently.

A lot has happened between these two pictures to get me to the place I’m in right now. I didn’t just wake up different one day.
I had to realize I was fed up with being obsessed with all the wrong things and literally choose to be different and then actually try to be the way I wanted to be every. single. day after that.
Over this last year I guess I’ve just realized that if you want things to be different, you have to BE DIFFERENT. And Different is scary at first but I can tell you, it’s freaking worth it. 💯

Nice quick diet. It served it's purpose but now this foodie is ready to eat more and lift those heavy weights 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️ Back in the day i tried every quick fix diet & "challenge" in the book. Nothing has been more effective and sustainable as the last 3 years tracking my macros and being supported by my coach. 
The past 8 weeks has got me feeling great physically but there is no need to keep pushing, no more deep dieting for me. 
I'm keen to chase PBs for my 1RMs 🙌

Elbows slightly bent. During the motion I think and try to feel the targeted muscle (Rear Delt) by using only it. I continue to work and feel the burn until failure. Cables aren’t the best to build but to use as an extra pump towards the end of the session.  This is a lifestyle and is one of the fun things in life.  Let’s continue to work and motivate one another 💪🏽🤙🏽
