Knute Heldner first wintered in New Orleans in 1927, with his wife and former student Colette Pope. This trip began his love of the picturesque French Quarter and the southern landscape. Knute became one of the leading figures of New Orleans’ bohemian art colony from the late 1920s to his death in 1952.

I was very fortunate to #interview him over the phone in 2007 before he came to #Japan for his first tour in 27 years. Saying just "hello," his baritone voice brought the atmosphere of #LouisianaBayou to my room. He's a cool cat.
