You guys, marriage is beautiful, and it takes work and perseverance to keep it that way.
News flash: if you think your person is right for you as long as it’s a walk in the park, and use the “this isn’t what I signed up for,” card as soon as they get challenging, you need to stop and check what voices you’re believing.
We live in a culture where the “pursuit of happiness,” is literally our national goal. Your spouse is not always going to be able to fill your cup, they’re as human as you are, but our culture tells us that if we’re not happy that’s reason enough to quit. I love my country, but dang, that is a LIE from the Devil himself.
I’m speaking in tough love because I know these truths personally. That lie sneaks up on me and tries to darken corners of my heart that should be reserved for holding grace.
Preparing for parenthood has thrown challenges (aka tensions) at us that we’ve never had to think about before. We’ve had to re-learn how to communicate our fears and pressures (and my hormones are whack to boot). Our marriage has been in a stretching season, but you know what you get if you push through the pruning? Growth.
We aren’t quitters, but more than that, we continue to CHOOSE each other daily. We are learning to adapt to new needs of our other, to show love in new ways that weren’t important before, and to listen better. I’m excited to experience the strength that this growing time will create in us and in our relationship. I’m thankful that our kids will see a love that doesn’t give up.
Truths: Love is an action not a feeling. God gave me and John to each other on purpose. Marriage is sacred, and it’s joy is worth the work.
What truths do you need to cement in your heart?

“Shared memories with others is one of the richest ways to do life. I am forever grateful for those who I’ve met over the years, the people who I still know and those I’ve lost touch with. You see, I truly believe that every encounter (yes, even the short ones) are opportunities to learn something new and furthermore, opportunities to make memories that last a lifetime.”
I am extremely grateful to have learned from Buff and to have made memories that I will never forget. For the ways he encouraged me, mobilised me and made me cry with laughter. In this season that can so easily become about self, I am reminded that gratitude is a value that I want to hold in my life. Something Buff taught me. I am also really grateful for this incredible print by friend @benconnolly.
