This probably isn't what @colorgirlquilts meant when she asked what we learned in 2018, but I learned that I really really don't like doing applique! 😄 This log cabin was my very first quilt, back before I didn't know about things like seam allowances or using quality fabrics. 30+ years later, it's too tattered to use but I don't want to throw it out, so I decided to applique flowers over the holes and vines over the frayed seams. I'm going to love the end product......if I can make myself keep going.
Progress on this quilt! Piecing together used linen clothing partially indigo dyed, partially color removed. Can’t wait for this one to be finished, but first, Christmas presents! #quiltsofinstagram#quilting
Quilts on beds! My hubby requested a #logcabinquilt in red, white, and blue fabrics. It was not intended for our bed, but recent chilly weather had me add it to our bed quilts for extra warmth. I'm thinking I should make another version in red and green for the holidays! #scrappyquilt#quiltsofinstagram
Island Batik Ambassador Janet from Whispers of Yore made her November challenge to solve a problem in her home 🏡 .
Quilts can be very versatile. I live in an old house and although I love the old style molding, high ceilings and the original wavy glass in the windows, it can be cold and drafty this time of year. Some of the original doors between rooms are missing and rather than replacing them with new modern doors, I've opted to make quilted room dividers. Not only are they fun, but they can also help keep the rooms warm that I use the most, therefore saving on my utility bills. I used leftover Island Batik scraps from my other challenge projects and a very thin Thermore batting, provided by @hobbsbatting."
Bonus points for this beautiful quilt. We give it 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My daughter asked me if I would use a quilt design for a Christmas duvet cover. I chose this lovely precut set of Swedish Christmas fabrics to make a log cabin quilt top. It was quite a challenge and took some time, but it turned out really lovely! I used panels from a fat quarter set for the pillow shams.
Hello dear friends! My name is Mustard🐻Nice seeing you all! My mama is now sewing my body and I'm looking forward to sitting to wave you hello! Hope she will finish it in the next class. See you then!
We love seeing what our customers do with our free quilt patterns!
This is Jen's version of our Mariner's Cabin free pattern - - Andrea designed it for the Alison Glass Mariner's Cloth, but Jen has shown it works just as well in other fabrics!
This pattern is FAST because the pieces are quite large... If you're looking for a last minute quilt to whip up for a Christmas gift, this is a great option!
Go to gothamquilts.com and search for Mariner to download the free pattern.

Break time! Late, last-minute, whatever. I can’t plan anything for the life of me and know there are others out there just like me who will still be hunting for cards til the morning of.
Add to the tardiness the conscious decision to employ the super labor-intensive process of bronzing, application of metals AFTER printing instead of printing with a metallic ink in the first place. Why? I prefer the end result.
Anyway, a supply of these and two more color ways (pics tomorrow) will be printed, folded, packed and ready in time for this weekend’s annual “Franklin Holiday Stroll”.
Slowly but surely this quilt top is coming together. I had been looking for fabrics to pair with the photo design of my youngest @ejaneburk & when I saw the @annamariahorner rose fabric online I was sooooo hoping it would work; I screened shot it &’kept looking at it on my phone next to the photo design along with some other fabrics. Luckily we live close to Nashville so we headed to @craftsouth to see the rose fabric and that line & all those other Anna Maria fabrics that I’m always drooling over. The rose fabric looks so artistic- elegant next to the photo design, which was the vibe I was looking for. 💕💕💕🕺🕺🕺(Fabulous store BTW. If you get to Nashville you must go!) Anyhow the pattern is Reverberance from @shannonfraserdesigns & just perfect for featuring a photo design. Not a difficult pattern easy which is key for me.
FYI - if you’re new to my feed you’ll see a lot of posts about using photo designs in quilts. NOT just photos, as that looks cheesy, but instead a photo converted to a design, like a pencil drawing, watercolor etc using an APP on your iPhone/Android. Basically a very simple form of digital art. And My favorite APPs are Olli, Prisma & Sketchmaster. All that info on my blog - link in Bio.
Whew- didn’t plan on this long post. But there you have it!!! #photodesign#reverberancequilt#logcabinquilt#prisma#spoonflower#modernmemoryquilts#memoryquilt
