Lucerne’s proximity to the Swiss Alps and Lake Lucerne, as well as its alluring mixture of old and modern architecture are the major factors responsible for this city’s 5 million annual visitors. The stunning river Reuss that dissects Lucerne is the outflow from the lake; the city straddles both of the river’s banks and is connected by a number of bridges. The Kapellbrücke is possibly Switzerland’s most famous bridge, the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe and the world’s oldest surviving Truss bridge. The bridge is attached to the Wasserturm (‘Water Tower’), a reminder of the initial fortification of Lucerne during the 1300s. The bridge’s exterior is lined with fresh flowers and is one of Switzerland’s most photographed landmarks 💐 #smartphonephotography
