Classroom tip #45 : Positivity can be projected to your students with more than just words! Bright colors, fun furniture, motivational posters, open space and creative work on display add an air of encouragement to their educational environment.
Archaic words are my passion, writing historical fiction allows me to pepper my dialogue with these colorful tidbits. Today’s word is: VARLETS, by mid-1700 meant rogues and rascals, before that a varlet was a yeoman’s servant. annieparnell.com
Can you tell how surprised we were?! Still so humbled and excited to have received the #JetBlueForGood grant. Thank you @jetblue for recognizing our students and all of the great work we’ll be able to do because of this grant 🙏🏼
Deleting 5,789 words and more to go! It’s hurts just a little. Because it’s my baby! It’s all part of the process. I heard, writing flour first draft is like gather sand to make a castle on the beach. The collector in me wants to keep it all but for it to be a masterpiece some of it will have to cut away.
We at Behind the Book are extremely excited and grateful to have been chosen as one of the three organizations to receive the JetBlue For Good Grant!! Thank you @JetBlue for recognizing our passion for literacy and our dedication to empowering students in underserved NYC communities ✈️✈️✈️ #JetBlueForGood
“Excuse me Great Shaykh, how does one go about asking questions? What’s allowed to ask and what’s not?” Erma asked timidly in the silence after. Never mind knowing the answers, Erma didn’t even know where to start with questions. “Nothing’s off limits. If it’s appropriate.” Silence continued.
The Great Shaykh gazed at the restaurant TVs. Intense struggle was clear on her face. “Is it true you said to stay away from a Certain Sheikh?” “Listen, you’re free to go wherever you want, it’s just that person isn’t teaching here anymore. Doesn’t mean we don’t see him as a good person. If you want to be safe, don’t follow a Shaykh,” he responded curtly. —Loveletters

"'The believer is a mirror to the believer,’” Erma translated lovingly. “Oh, did you all find the translation for the other one Ustad Arabi gave in class?”
“Allah is with those whose hearts are broken for his sake,” Ophellia yawned as Ahsant clapped in excitement. There are sisters you could pour your heart and soul to with no awkwardness afterward. Ahsant, the elder of the Canadian duo was one of those sisters for Erma. —Loveletters

“Yes, does he want to fight us?” Judith asks Bastion somehow innocently. “You two leave me alone, you have no place here.” Cain speaks then walks away from the two demons. He was over the conversation. He didn’t want to hear about.... “He...got your message.” -

RIP Stan Lee. Marvel comics were some of the first things I read as a kid. The stories, the imagination, and the characters were inspiring and helped a generation of boys and girls dream of being something more. You will be missed.
This weekend was a thrill, @boutiquefairssg. It was a significant one because I realised just how passionate I am about writing. What started out as a simple service to go along with our mysteriously wrapped books, customised typewritten poems have become a way for myself to really connect with you all. I really enjoyed interacting with every single one of you. To the mother gifting a poem to her daughter with anxiety issues (she’s a soldier, ma’am and so are you), to the man rushing me to churn out a poem while his girlfriend buys them sandwiches from our neighbour’s booth (I still remember your floral shirt bro), to the young couple dedicating something to their newborn son (sorry my clacking away woke him up), to the young woman who wanted something to tide her through tough days. I really, really thank all of you for trusting this stranger with your inclinations.
Can’t wait to do this at an event again soon, and absolutely cannot wait to share with you all the upcoming published collection of my “give me three words” poems. Pre-orders available on our website (thenovelencounter.com)
Happy Monday everyone! Say no to the blues. It’s going to be an amazing day.
