Still can’t believe I’m seeing these guys again next week ?! Like it’s still feels like the first time I seen them never happened it. I remember from the minute I managed to get a ticket for the villains tour last year the feeling of “somebody pinch me!” Right up until the gig I felt this way, I even said to myself “surely my ticket must be fake” 😂 Then the day of the gig arrived and I couldn’t believe my eyes it was the REAL QOTSA standing in front of me performing...they just blew my mind! Now here we are again I’m seeing them for the 2nd time with their legendary lineup of friends next week 😱can’t wait #RollOnFinsburyPark Hope to see some of you guys there too 🤘🏻🖤
QOTSA's sixth album is a self-produced masterpiece, featuring first time full contributions from bassist Michael Shuman and keyboardist/guitarist Dean Fertita, however seeing the departure or Joey Castillo.
Back in 2011 Joshua was hospitalised for 13 days and bedridden for 4 months after a surgical procedure on his knee went badly. He recalled walking up to hear the doctor say 'shit, we lost you'. Due to the long period of time Homme was out of action, he hit a low spot, falling into a deep depression. His fellow band members urged Joshua to get back in the studio to record. To which Josh replied by asking the band if they really wanted to make a record with him while he was in his current state. However looking back he believes it brought him a lot closer to his band mates.
This album has a catalogue of guest musicians that would impress anybody. Dave Grohl would drum on the album after Joey left, making this the second album Davey G has drummed for Queens. Trent Reznor also makes vocal contributions, but also almost produced the album. Other include Nick Oliveri, Alain Johannes, Mark Lanegan, Alex Turner and Elton John.
I feel this album is probably my favourite of all time, it strips you down to your core and makes you take a look inside. A quote by Joshua sums it up perfectly, "I was just lost, looking for something in the dark. In that dark I found …Like Clockwork".
