The word of the day: PROPRIOCEPTION🤓
Proprioception is fancy speak for you being able to tell the orientation of your body in space. For a lot of my pop stars 💫 that ability is impaired. If they can’t correctly sense where their body parts are, their movement reflects it. Just imagine the floppy balloon person that waves around at car dealerships 🙈So this is a game we played with this kiddo.
I gave him a card. He looks at the card and mimics the position. I started with weight bearing positions (hands and feet touching the ground) so he could have some stability and input. From here we will work our way into more challenging positions. A great way to challenge his senses 😊 You can find this cool deck on Amazon 😉 .

Sometimes, I cry about a floor plank that has a chip in it that the installers didn’t notice until after they had finished that room which means that the cabinet installation just got pushed back at least a bajillion years (not really, but that’s what my dramatic brain is telling me) 😭😩😭
My gut instinct was to feel guilty about crying over a floor plank - #firstworldproblems much? But then I realized my feelings are valid, regardless of their source. And the truth is, I’m not actually crying about that stupid plank that just wouldn’t keep its stuff together. I mean, I totally am. But, I’m also crying because, guys, remodels are STRESSFUL. Eating out three meals a day for two and a half months is AWFUL. My Crohn’s is on a bender and there is construction dust EVERYWHERE. One of our (many) crew members told me one day that a fire is usually the most significant event in a person’s life and I have to say, it’s coming pretty close in our case - and we didn’t even lose anything of sentimental value!
All of that 👆🏼 to say, own your feelings. Sit with them for a bit, process them and know they have worth. Crying over “stupid” stuff doesn’t make you any less of a person than anyone else. It makes you perfectly human. ❤️
Cramps had me feeling like... "@gopatch where were you when I was 12 and got my first period?!?!? I'm 50, have toooo sensitive a stomach for advil/midol and all that other medication junk that destroys your liver and insides, so i struggle through EVERY MONTH-for almost 40 years now!! I have used it now for 4 months. Unbelievable, cramps GONE. My partner wants me to thank you, apparently I'm nicer now that my cramps are gone :) thanks from both of us." - Rosie R. We are glad you found us Rosie. Who else feels like this and could use some relief? #wellnesswednesday
Why do I home educate? I’m often asked this when people find out we have chosen not to send our children to school. I give a very short diplomatic answer to this question as I know that many would not like my honest answer. As a child I found situations with a lot of people I didn’t know very well, quite distressing and overwhelming. I was also a daydreamer and could lose myself for hours in a book or creating art (I still do). I’ve always questioned the way things are done and have never conformed to the status quo. So school was an incredibly jarring experience. I always remember a deep sadness about going to school. I would often think ‘is this it?’ ‘this is life?’ And so I would retreat in every single lesson into my dream world. All of my workbooks were covered in doodles. All of my school reports (aside from Art) emphasised how intelligent I was but that I could try harder. Why did I need to try harder? for what? I was always very popular in school but all I ever wanted was to be alone. To stay in my dream world until I got home where I could make up spells, go on adventures with the characters in my books or dance away to my favourite album. It didn’t feel good to put my children through that too. I want them to learn what they want when the feeling sweeps over them. I want them to be able to absorb science while sitting upside down, to understand what a number is instead of being told what it is. I want them to figure out this world, in their own way, at their own pace. But most importantly I want them to figure out who they are, what they like, what they want, what’s important to them, what makes them feel joy, what sort of people they like to be around. I want my children to be free to be themselves, free from being dictated to, free from being told what or how to think. #homeeducation#wildandfree#lifelearning#lifewithoutschool#mumlife#lifewithoutlimits#homeeducator
So grateful for my girl tribe and to have these mountains in my backyard! I was able to spend last Friday hiking and in conversation with my friends, instead of being glued to a desk, because I made the choice to take a chance on a business that would allow me the freedom to say YES! Life does not have to be either/or, you can have it all and West Maroon pass never disappoints!
Time to get all geared up for back to school! 🔥📚 From now until September 15, members of College Outside get FREE SHIPPING on pretty much every brand & product on our site! (doggo not included)
