📍Hamersley Inlet, Fitzgerald National Park ~ Hopetoun, Western Australia 🇦🇺
Here, we have the mission statement of Muu, a reasonably new steakhouse in Porto. Every single aspect of what they have written there is upheld throughout the dining service. Opened by a local guy who also serves the tables alongside his colleagues, this place is a carnivore's vision in distressed metal, exposed brickwork and impeccable execution of their dishes. Felt so welcomed by the staff (and left me thinking that certain restaurants could do with a training course from this lot in the art of warm, personable service). The T-bone steak was, and I'm not exaggerating, the best piece of meat I have ever had in my mouth (get your mind out of the gutter). The beautiful aged beef croquettes they brought out on the house, beautiful. Their own brut reserve sparkling wine was heavenly. The potato rosti with a layer of Brie and a spattering of truffle oil, unreal. The custom cartoon artwork. The playlist of the Cure, Radiohead and a whole host of indie kid wet dreams. What can I say? This is exactly the kind of restaurant I want to support... locally run and expertly done. I like it so much, I'm going to experience the owner's mother's cooking tomorrow night 😂

Sunset over the hills in Lamington NP, Gold Coast Hinterland. This world heritage listed park sits on the border on QLD and NSW, and protects some fantastic rainforests and wildlife.
There's so much to do in all the parks around here, from day trips to week long hikes. Cheers @trezizi for the great company snapping this one!
Wanted to officially introduce myself! My name is Kayla and I am traveling with my husband during his medical school rotations. We are taking quite the unorthodox path to rotations, but it allows us to stick together and to be able to see all the beautiful areas of the country! We are finally completely moved in and ready to share all our experiences with you! Hope you enjoy following along with us❤
After some consideration I have decided not to pursue the Legacy of the Beanfield film, I had planned to make in the format I had planned to. The story is much more complex and greater research would be required than I am able to handle independently and would require a great deal of time travelling across the country interviewing many people, which in reality I don't think I am able to do. The interview I did with a fascinating traveller called Roger, gives an amazing introduction to the topics I wanted to share with people and so I have edited a film using the interview and found footage. The film will be released very soon, watch this space... 🚐💕
N’I ain’t sayin’ dey like dey hot sauce heah but deys ovah fiddee feet of shelf foh it. Dey’s all kine - summen foh aveyone.
I’m mesmerized by the patois of the Cajun folk here in the bayou, especially south of what many here consider the border (Interstate 10).
It’s the same people, Acadians, descendants of French settlers that settled the Maritimes, northern New England, and southern Louisiana that live in each of these areas now.
The word Cajun, even, is a contraction of Acadian. Many of the social habits, food, and speech is similar, and in each area these facets further evolved to create distinct regional personalities.
I love hearing phrases like:
- Why he did that?
- I tuhned aroun and dey he was, gone!
- You take this back up the downstahs .
One of the places I used to hitchhike to as a kid was Acadia National Park, halfway up the coast of Maine. It was there I first started learning about, and exploring, the connection between the Acadians of northeast US and Canada and the Acadians (Cajuns) of southern Louisiana.
I’m tickled to death to be rambling and roaming south of I-10 in Cajun Bayou country.
Do you explore local culture and history when you ramble? I can’t help but stop and ponder the past of each place I visit and wonder how much of it will remain as this continent becomes more and more homogenized.
Regional differences are important, but rapidly disappearing.
Da sun finey come back out! I got a envie ta get my pirogue in da watah and find som cocodril!
Tip to go @rousesmarkets for olive spread so I can make my own Muffalettas goes to my buddy @mjchurchman. I hope to get him out canoeing and camping here sometime; he knows this area and these waters.
C’est tout pour moi.
At least that’s what I call this place.
H O M E
But it’s not really anymore, is it?
Instead it’s home to the ones I love, friends and family, and friends’ dogs and streets and memories. And all those things live here, but I don’t.
I live on the road, everywhere and no where.
It’s weird being here with our Airstream.
D U A L I T Y
I’m inside a tension of being here in this place I consider home, but then crawling back into our trailer at night.
It fits in perfectly in the desert, in the forest, in the mountain air, but here, our Airstream life seems so out of place.
I guess that’s how I’m feeling.
A little out of place.
A little abnormal.
But also, I feel a little bit home too.
