When you’re feeling “meh” but also have to attend to the needs of two small people who don’t understand the phrase “Mom could use a nap...can you self-entertain for a couple of hours?” - might I suggest these, together. Spruce, grounding as it is, has kept the swears at bay, and Lemon has kept me from having to physically prop my eyelids open. Add to that peppermint on my temples and I’m almost human. Almost.
Heading out shortly for a portrait session this afternoon for yet another badass woman who is off to tackle her own vision of a dream career. Lots of reflection lately about what it takes to follow your passions and chart your own path. I am honored to get to play a small part in these awesome journeys. It’s humbling and inspiring. ✨ #dmotifportraits
We tend to limit ourselves by the lies that have been spoken over us. Some of the lies are so subtle and sneaky that we don’t even realize that they have become a stronghold on our life.
The walls and limitations in your life that keep you bound are only there because of lies you are believing about yourself. Most of the time these lies settle in because of something someone has said to us. We let these lies take root in our lives and grow.
But God. What He says about us is true. In the book of Revelation, He is called Faithful and True. He has truth for every lie that you are believing about yourself and He is faithful to speak that truth to your clearly. He wants to uproot every lie that has been spoken over you and fill it with life and truth. Ask Him what the truth is and set yourself to listen, because when you ask Him to reveal His truth to you, He will speak.
To date, I’ve had 21 jobs and received 118 rejection emails. This was one of them. I remember being so discouraged and even hurt at how curt it was. But I didn’t stop. Later that same year, I started teaching 3D animation and 2 years later, I got a job for my all-time favourite TV Channel growing up: Nickelodeon. It was surreal! It was here that I found my calling; Production. The perfect balance in working at the industry I’ve wanted since I can hold a crayon, and being able to make art on the side. It was the dream.
Still, I didn’t stop. I learned over the years that you never stop learning. With each job, I grew and became “a better fit” for the next job or the next goal. I went on to work on TV shows, film, and expanded EK outside of Vancouver. (Pretty far from being a Sandwich Artist, I’d say! Haha.) Not all my jobs were “industry-related” but I know for certain that I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am today without these experiences. Rejections included.
In my last studio, I was lucky enough to meet one of my heroes, Glen Keane. He drew on my book (faints) and wrote a message that I’d like to share with you: “Plus est en vous!” There is more in you. ♥️
Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart, But that's okay. The journey changes you--it should change you. It leaves marks on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you...Hopefully, you leave something behind."-Anthony Bourdain 📚✈️📚✈️📚✈️📚✈️📚✈️📚✈️📚✈️📚
don't wait for success to come to you. working the part time job, putting in the work here and there, is not going to be your success story. if you wait for it to fall in your lap, you'll be waiting the rest of your life. ⠀
the universe conspires for those who use their time & energy to hustle towards their dreams. you have to fight for it, or else, it'll go to someone else. ⠀
success comes to those who deserve it. ⠀
do you? ⠀

This is where it all began! What an amazing journey. I’ll be taking a short break to soak up some sunshine and move house but I’ll be back very soon with some fab new ideas that I’m itching to explore and also a few commissions to get started on. #cantwait#soexcited#lifeofanartist
This was the third animal to make it out of the forest and into my woodland series. Check out my *brand new!* website to see all of my work or to purchase a print. www.thatpearlgirlart.com⠀
His stealth is captured in his sleek wings, and beady eyes. He is unmistakably the King of the night. Hiding just out of sight, only to silently swoop down and claim his prize.⠀
I have always been mesmerized by the way they calmly and quietly survey their Kingdom from the tree tops; as if they are looking into a future that we can't see.⠀
I fell in love with his feather tufts, and stealthy gaze. The colors are minimal so as not to detract from his natural camouflage.⠀
What's your favorite part?⠀
