“I’ve long had an interest in life-saving, even when I was a boy. When I was 10, my friend and I went fishing near our kampung in Lorong Ah Soo, and we spotted a boy struggling in the water. We jumped in to rescue him, but by the time we pulled him to safety, he was unconscious. That experience made me want to learn more about being a lifeguard.
I began my journey with Singapore Life Guard Corps. They were providing free life-saving courses at River Valley Swimming Pool. From there, I worked my way up, and earned all the certificates needed to become a qualified lifesaver. I enjoy it very much, and I’ve never looked back since. After 45 years, I’m now the most experienced lifeguard on patrol at Changi Coast Point.
Becoming a lifeguard is more than being a strong swimmer. You must be trained in first aid, CPR and you have to achieve your Bronze Medallion certificate before you can go on duty. Even then, you have to go through constant training because some certificate requires renewal every 2 to 3 years! The training is tough, but it makes sure you learn new skills and hone the ones you already have.” George Lee is the President of Singapore Life Guard Corps, and a lifeguard with over 45 years of experience. After his retirement in 2012, he continues to volunteer as a lifeguard while teaching lifesaving and swimming lessons.

#cbmdf#cfsd2000#orgulhodobrasil#vidaporvidas#bombeira#firewoman#eusalvovidas#amomeutrabalho#firefighter#firefighters#lifeguard#guardavidas
