Licuala at the entrance to Singapore Botanic Garden. This genus of palms is native to SE Asia and Australasia. ⠀⠀
There is something other-worldly about the fused leaflets, which create perfect pleated umbrella-like leaves. Perfect for sheltering under during a sudden rain shower!
Take over to our peaceful morning walk. Felt the wind under stunning palm tree canopy, it’s such a mesmerizing details to watch parallel leaf folds in this close— our eyes very entertained at that moment.
I killed my precious Licuala palm. Had to repot it and discovered ant infestation. It went into shock and died within a week😢. Do palms sometimes miraculously come back to life in spring like some other plants, or this is it? I’m very sad and I hate winter. #licuala#licualapeltatavarsumawongii
Licuala maculata // Ripe seed detail. Many Licuala have orange spherical seeds no larger than a pea, or a similar style. Imagine my surprise the first time I saw the seeds of one of the species in the maculata group... an elongated fruit, and a crescent shaped seed with pointed ends. Palms may look similar to our eyes, but the seeds could not be more diverse. 🇲🇾 🇮🇩 #floribundapalms .
