17-Day Spiritual Journey through central and western Tibet to join the most significant Buddhist festival in Tibet ( The Saga Dawa Festival )

Why Saga Dawa is important?
This is the month Buddha Shakyamuni came to our world, this is the month of Buddha Shakyamuni's enlightenment and finally, Buddha Shakyamuni reaches the Parinirvana.
Three important festivals for a follower of Buddha Shakyamuni happening in one month making it the most important festival for Buddhist.
Best months to acquire merit
Since it is a very auspicious month so in this month every Buddhists should take this opportunity to acquire lots of good merit from our body, speech, and mind.
Tibetans Spiritual activities
In this month, many Tibetans will avoid eating meat, making kora to monasteries, prostration around Jhokang Temple and Potala Palace and chanting as much as we can.
Beauties of this festival
Many festivals are celebrated by eating lots of meat and drinking lots of alcohol and playing games but the beauty of Saga Dawa festival is Buddhist avoid to do those things since Buddhist believe these things are creating more negative karma so Buddhist focus doing more meditation, reading scripture and giving alms, in conclusion, Buddhist do all their best to train their mind with compassion. That is the main beauty of this festival. ______________________

The Ralung monastery can be traced back to one of the great Tibetan Yogi Jetsun Tsangpa Gyare Yeshe Dorje.
Je Tsangpa Gyare was born in the Ngang To area in the Shigatse prefecture during the year 1161.
Je Tsangpa Gyare was one of the fortunate masters who has a chance to met the great Yogi Je Lingrepa Pema Dorje.
History of the Ralung monastery
After meeting his main master at the village namely Ralung, he later established the magnificent monastery namely Ralung near the mountain and a river ( a great place for retreat ) during the year 1180.
Ra meaning Goat and Lung meaning place or oral transmission. From my knowledge, I have a deep feeling that the name Ralung is connected to one of the greatest Tibetan Yogi ( Jetsun Ra Lotsawa )
When I read the short biography of Jetsun Lingrepa Pema Dorje, it's written that he had met a master namely Ra Lotsawa. Since Ra Lotsawa was one of the Tibetan masters said to have lived for around 180 years so it might be Jetsun Ra Lotsawa from who he has received the teachings of Yamantaka Buddha, or it might be another master namely Ra and received the teachings.
Je Lingrepa Pema Dorje was one of the Tibetan masters having a precious lineage from Jetsun Milarepa's disciple Jetsun Rechungpa and Jetsun Ra Lotsawa.
The Buddhism in Tibet has more than 6-7 schools, but now we only have four major schools.
1. Nyingma school
2. Kagyu school
3. Sakya school
4. Gelug school
The Kagyu school is divided into four major Dakpo Kagyu schools and eight sub-Pagdru schools.
Four Major Dakpo Kagyu schools
5. Karma Kagyu
6. Barom Kagyu
7. Tsalpa Kagyu
8. Pagdru Kagyu
Eight sub-Pagdru schools
9. Drigung Kagyu
10. Drukpa Kagyu
11. Taklung Kagyu
12. Martsang Kagyu
13. Shugseb Kagyu
14. Trophu Kagyu
15. Yamzang Kagyu
16. Yelpa Kagyu
The Kagyu school is popular for focusing on meditation and retreat ( The school of the Yogi wanderers ).
The name Drukpa is the name for Bhutanese. The compassion of Tibetan masters from Drukpa Kagyu school is one of the beautiful influences behind the name of Bhutan ( Druk ). Ralung monastery is the principal monastery of Drukpa Kagyu school of Buddhism in Tibet.

The practice of Medicine Buddha, the Supreme Healer (or Sangye Menla in Tibetan) is not only a very powerful method for healing and increasing healing powers both for oneself and others, but also for overcoming the inner sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, thus to meditate on the Medicine Buddha can help decrease physical and mental illness and suffering.
Medicine Buddha’s mantra is TAYATHA OM BHEKANDZYE BHAKANDZYE MAHA BHEKANDZYE BHEKANDZE RADZA SAMUGATE SOHA.
Meaning of The Medicine Buddha's Mantra:
TAYATHA– means “like this”. OM - is composed of the three pure sounds A U and MA, which signifies one’s own body, speech and mind that get transformed into the vajra holy body, speech and mind.
BHEKANDZYE BHAKANDZYE -“eliminating pain, eliminating pain”. What eliminates pain is medicine. This pain is not ordinary pain – even animals do not want to experience that. The first eliminating pain is true suffering, the second is the true cause of suffering. The medicine that eliminates pain is first the graduated path of the lower capable being, and second the graduated path of the middle capable being.
MAHA BHEKANDZYE -“the great eliminating pain” is the graduated path of the higher capable being, which eliminates the subtle defilements. So bekandze bekandze maha bekandze contains the whole path to enlightenment, the ultimate medicine.
RADZA – is king.
SAMUGATE – (ocean of goodness)
SOHA – to establish the foundation in the heart, the blessing, the devotion from which the realization comes.
