The common cattail is growing here in a freshwater marsh. The sausage-like brown head of seeds produce a white fluff when they are shedding. This fluff can be burned to produce a smoke that works as passable insect repellant. #cattails#explorenl#lewisporte#newfoundland
NEWFOUNDLAND TOUR...SHOW 1! A great night of fun in #conceptionbaysouth playing at the S.S. Meigle! Thanks so much to Terry Parsons and our show sponsors, and to all the fine cheery folks who came out for the show! And thanks to my friend from home Mike Weir for grabbing some pics! On to @thecitadelhouse tonight in #lewisporte
After a total of 8,279 nautical miles since launching in #lewisporte in late april, Philos is now at her winter home south of Bergen in Norway.
Crossing from Newfoundland to Iceland, Iceland the Norway, Norway to Svalbard and then back again, some charters and lots of exploring have all presented challenges but also innumerable rewards, good times, and memories.
We had a somewhat fitting send off in the form of a slow 600nm passage here with contrary winds, no wind, and beating into a full gale for Philos' final night sail.
Showers, some beers and whiskeys, a few days of boat pack down and clean up, and then it's back to Australia.
Next year is shaping up to be an interesting one, stay tuned.
