Working 50+ hrs each week in a physically demanding job and only getting one day off, fasting is generally an easy way of life for me. So after discovering a lump on my hip I'm listening to my body and need to slow it down and as a big believer in food being thy medicine I'm upping my organic greens 🥗sautéed in coconut oil with liberal turmeric for its anti inflammatory properties with gut healing fermented sourdough bread 🍞Copious arnica ointment for the swelling Vitamin D 🌞earthing 👣 namaste 🙏🏻 #letfoodbethymedicine#jerf#keto#lchf#intermittentfasting#healingfoods#guthealth#overworkedandstressed#imbrokenbutok 💔

Doctors For Nutrition: bringing food back to healthcare
Never did I think that I would be announcing something like this to a large audience... #pcosproblems I guess 😂
MY PERIOD STORY-
I haven’t had a regular, consistent period since I was 13. For most of my teen years I would go months/years without a period, only to be blindsided by a period so painful, long, and heavy that I would have no choice but to stay home daily. There was no rhyme or reason to when my periods came, and as an avid swimmer and lifeguard, that was a cause of CONSTANT stress.
When I went on birth control, things got SO MUCH WORSE. By my wedding day, I was on three different kinds of birth control to try to stop the constant bleeding that eventually made me anemic.
About a year and a half into our marriage, I had tried every form of hormonal birth control that I was willing to try, and I decided that it just wasn’t for me. What so many women with #pcos don’t know, is that birth control doesn’t CURE anything. It manages your symptoms, if you’re lucky. But it doesn’t do anything to reduce the cysts, and it doesn’t actually bring on a true “period”. •
More on that later, but long story short, after coming off of birth control, I haven’t had a natural period in over a year, even though I was living an extremely balanced, wholesome, healthy, holistic life. I even quit my job and changed my major in part to try to balance things. Nothing budged...UNTIL TODAY. ♥️
I had heard someone say that even if you’re doing everything right to balance your hormones, your body just needs time to relax and be convinced that it’s safe to bring on a period. Today was the start of my first non-pill induced period in YEARS, and that’s something I’m gonna celebrate 🎉
This doesn’t mean that my PCOS is gone or “cured”, or that I’m “better” by any means, but it DOES mean that I’m finally really figuring out what works for my body, and that is good enough for me today. ♥️
Crockpot is a great way to prep food for the week...or for the weekend to ensure you stay on point 😉

Purple🥕recipe... "AUTUMN BIBIMBAP" with Gochujang Brussel Sprouts & Sesame Aoili. 20g protein/serving.
Bibimbap is a traditional Korean dish, served right from the pan. It was both fun to make and to eat. ***gochujang is just a red chili paste. Use any red chili paste(chili garlic sauce, sweet chili sauce) or Asian sauce ie; hoisin, you happen to have on hand.
Find this recipe and others on my sister FB page "Niki Kearsley" just the recipes without the drama😋
Dinner was a hit tonight! ✨ It was loved by all. 🙌🏻👊🏻I made chicken pot pie, but instead of a crust, I made homemade biscuits with sprouted spelt flour, grassfed butter, and raw milk: The kids devoured the biscuits, probably they haven’t had them in forever, and who doesn’t love a biscuit?!? 🤷🏻♀️ I made the filling with organic chicken, organic veggies, bone broth, and raw milk. It was super yummy and nutrient dense. .
This would definitely be a weekend meal because it does take time to make. .
I remember my mom used to make chicken pot pie with 4 cans of Campbell’s cream of whatever soups. 🤢 It’s a good thing she doesn’t have an Instagram account! 😳 This is a much better and healthier alternative. .
I lived a fast food/takeout lifestyle and the produce section of the grocery store was like visiting a foreign country. 😂 Over the years I’ve learned how to live better but it was a process. If you’re looking to eat better and experience more out of your life here are some my favorite kitchen tools to for the journey:
1️⃣ Power blender- I’m partial to Vitamix and it’s Isaac’s fault. When we met 9 years ago I started using it and I’ve loved it ever since. Smoothies, soups, ice cream, salad dressing it does it all and it does it best. .
2️⃣ The Instant Pot - This is such a high value cooking tool. It’s a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice and quinoa cooker, chili/stew cooker and it does even more. If you’ve been on the fence about Instant Pot - yes, it does live up to the hype...IF you use it. .
3️⃣ Food Processor- I luuuuuv to cook but sometimes I don’t feel like doing all that chopping. Food processor to the rescue! Plus I use it to make these avocado bowls: https://bit.ly/2CsZTId ⬅️ My kids LOVE these! .
4️⃣ Electric kettle - Teas are some of the most healthy beverages we can drink. 🍵 Many are high in antioxidants and health boosting properties. Call me lazy but I’d rather bypass using the stove at the end of the day (when I usually drink tea).
5️⃣ Cookbooks - This is a small selection of the cookbooks I have. When I get in a cooking rut, these keep my cooking game on point and interesting. .
6️⃣ Essential Oils- We use and diffuse essential oils everyday- I apply them to the kids every morning before preschool to boost their immunity. I diffuse them in the house for energy and wellbeing and I cook with them too.
7️⃣Vita Clay Non Toxic Cooker- my favorite for making bone broth. It doesn’t get as hot as a pressure cooker. Too much heat can denature the vitamins and minerals in the bone broth depriving you of some of the benefits. Here’s how I use it to make bone broth: https://bit.ly/2CsZTId
Alright, I shared mine. What are your favorite kitchen gadgets? .
Our blends are great kitchen staples! In addition to adding our beneficial blends to milk, water, smoothies, and teas, you can bake with them, add to oils, dressings and more! Pack your favorite dishes with our organic/non-GMO blends to make every food a superfood. 👏🏼👏🏼 #Supervos

That constant brain fog, trouble sleeping, and 💩 issues could all be caused by a Magnesium deficiency. And guess what? You can eat CHOCOLATE to change that! .
Say hello to one of the most prevalent minerals in our cells that regulates over 600 chemical reactions. So basically, this stuff is pretty damn important! .
@chris.rocchio_fit gives great info on what kind of Magnesium is out there and more info on how beneficial it is to your body.

FINALLY made it to @honeyhi 😍 when I was dress shopping this week! Yet another plus to shopping at @loveandlacebridalsalon in LA - it’s right down the street from the restaurant! Now I’m even more excited to go back for my fitting (even though it’s monthsssss away 😅)! This was the breakfast bowl with sweet potato hash, pastured turmeric poached egg, heritage bacon, herbs, avocado and greens... yum!! #honeyhi
Persimmons are such underrated 🍂 autumn fruit! They take the back seat to pumpkins, but they look a lot like little pumpkins, right?! Personally, I love them and eat them like an apple, skin and all! But most people peel the skin off and eat them....
🌿A few weeks ago, when hawthorn bearded it’s beautiful red fruits, I made this tincture.🌿Hawthorn is an old and very important healing plant. Hundreds of years ago it was used to heal kidney and bladder stones and as a diuretic medicine. At the end oft he 19th century an irish doctor discovered it’s healing characteristics concerning the heart and the blood circulation. You can use it’s red fruits and the fresh shoot tips. I made a tincture out of it’s fruits and it is so easy. I put a small hand full oft hem in a glass and filled them up with duoble the amount of corn schnapps (40% alcohol). The mixture has to rest one week now in a dark place. You can shake it from time to time. Then you filter it through a coffee filter and put it in dark glasses. You can use it, when you have problems with your circulation, bloodpressure or as a heart medicine (dosage here: 3x/day 10-15 drops).🌿
🌿☀️Good morning peeps, I hope you enjoyed this summer weekend!😆So, back in August we harvested lots of stinging nettle from two plants, that grow on our terrace. So many people don't know, that the stinging nettle is a powerful healing plant you can use for several health issues. You can use the leaves – fresh or dried – for tea and also the dried seeds. 🌿
It contains especially flavonoids, amins and lots of minerals like kalium, potassium or iron. Already in the 1. century the greek doctor Dioskorides used the fresh leaves as a plaster for septic sores or the juice against nosebleeding. The dried or fresh leaves, drunk as a tea, excite kidney activity and boost your metabolism. They also work diuretic and detoxifying. It's antispasmodic characteristics are very helpful if you suffer from indigestion and stomach cramps. 🌿
Stinging nettle also has antiinflammatory qualities, that help with urinary infections, gout, rheymatic pain or hives. I use it because of my chronic gastritis and irritable digestive System. Means, I drink tea every day in combination with other herbs like sage, lemon verbena, balm and Co. If you drink the tea as a real treatment, then you should drink 3 cups a day for 6 weeks.
💜I don’t really like to say it, but: autumn🍁 is here and summer🌞 is over. Again, it was just a short love affair ... Still nature offers gifts, that ease the step from summer to autumn. For example delicious plums. In English there is only one word for them, but in German we have Pflaumen (plums) and Zwetschgen (also plums), but the Zwetschge is a different fruit. And what I used here are Zwetschgen (organic).😉 They are delicious and healthy, provide us with important vitamins, f.e. vitamin B, that helps us with stress and upsets. Zwetschgen also have a positive effect on the metabolism and more. You find all the information on my blog (in German). Here I want to share the recipe for the jam with you. In Germany we also have a different word for this. Jam is marmelade, but what I made is „Mus“. It is something else, because it is mashed and without fruit bits in it. 👉🏼How to
I used 1800g Zwetschgen: Cut them into pieces and put them in a pot with the sectional side downwards (picture). But at first just one half oft hem.
You have to add 1/3 of the Zwetschgen-weight as sugar. So here 600g. I tooke brown sugar and mixed it with a teaspoon cinnamon and 1 package vanilla sugar (real vanilla). Put half of the sugar on the first Zwetschgen-layer.
Then add the other half of the Zwetschgen the same way and put the sugar on it. I also added 6 cloves.
Turn the stove on a low heat and wait until it is cooking, then put the stove down to lowest level. You may not stir, because then the mass gets burnt. Leave it on the stove for min. 5 hours. I had it there 5 ¼ hours. After that time puree it and put it in steril glasses. The „Mus“ is ready. Let it rest in a dark and cool room for another 2 to 3 months, so that the spices can pervade the jam.
🌿So, the second tincture I made is of stinging nettle. We have two of them on the left and right side of our terrace. One is male and one female. How practical.😊This year I harvested them for the first time. I dried the leaves for tea and the seeds for eating. Stinging nettle stimulates the kidneys, helps with detoxification and is also good for the stomach, intestine and digestion. I have a chronic stomach inflammation and this is why I want to try out the tincture. It’s effect is much more intense than tea.
For the tincture I only used fresh, young leaves. Two good hands full oft hem, cut them into small pieces, put them in the glass and brew it with 250ml brandy (36% alcohol). Now the brew hast o stand 10 days on a light windowsill and you have to shake it once a day. After this time just pour it through a coffee filter and fill it in brown glasses. I’ll start with 5 drops 3 times a day.🌿
💜I proudly present: My first elderberry-sirup!💜Luckily last week we came by a very nice elder shrub and harvested the berries. Elder is a very old healing plant and mankind knows it’s qualities since the stone age. Also lots of different myths entwine the elder. It’s home of ghosts and goddesses and you have to treat it well, if you like to harvest from it! In Great Britain people believe(d), that you have to sing some special verses to calm down the elder-ghost, before you cut off branches. In Germany it should protect the house from evil. Also: Do not eat the raw berries, because the Sambunigrin in it is toxic but harmless after cooking. 👉🏼I got 400ml juice out of around 1,4kg berries. I cooked them for 30-35 minutes in around 2-3 finger deep water (I put it in the pot after the berries!). To filter the juice, I poured it through a linen-towel that I put on a strainer. To get all of it you have to press out the fruits very strongly! To make the sirup you have to cook it again with sugar:
First the juice has to boil, then add half the amount of sugar. I used 200g organic beet sugar. Cook it another 5 minutes, then fill it in sterile glasses.
You can reuse the fruit ball, but more on that on another day!
