“La” = ‘passes’ , hence Ladakh means ‘The land of Passes’. Crossing yet another high altitude pass on the journey, ChangLa and TanglangLa, both of them here claim to be the ‘Second highest pass in the World’. The impressive 32 meter tall colorful statue of Maitrai Buddha perched on top the hill lock, facing the Shyok River towards Pakistan, compliments the barren surrounding perfectly. According to the Buddhists, Maitrai Buddha means “The Future Buddha” , the Buddha who shall rule the world when people will stop following the preachings of the current Buddha. (SWIPE LEFT <— )
It’s only when you reach the top, the magnitude of this journey actually hits you. Very few things I’ll do in life will come close to the thrill of driving through the “WORLD’s HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD” at 18380ft. .
