At Caboche, we have a very precise mission that unfolds in three goals... First and foremost, we create books FOR people with developmental disabilities. 📚
The idea for the project was born while I was working as a support worker. I got sick of reading children’s books to adults with developmental disabilities.
I started dreaming of illustrated books with themes that were not patronizing. Books with characters they could see themselves into and identify with. Books that still had a language that was adapted to their various levels of understanding.

My whole life I’ve been too embarrassed to admit that reading is hard for me. I have OCD which causes me to read sentences & paragraphs in loops, sometimes for hours. I’ve worked rly hard at it bc I love learning (I’m obsessed with it actually.) So now, as an adult, I’ve accepted the fact that I’m always going to be a slow reader & that’s ok bc my reading is just for me. Reading gives me INSANE access to learn from the world’s experts on any topic I can dream up. It’s honestly amazing & I’m so excited I can learn for ever and ever.
If you’re like me and struggle w reading, HEAR ME when I say you are no less intelligent. Be patient w urself. & also consider some of these alternatives I love:
🎤 Podcasts (great for long drives)
🎧 Audible (or any audiobook app)
📱 Blinkist!!! My new fave app that @blonde.blond recommended to me. It distills down each chapter to just the main points, so you can get thru a book in like 15min (perf if u have a super long reading list you’ll never finish like me!)
I’m ALWAYS looking for good book recs (personal development / business preferred), so let’s crowdsource this shit. SHARE YOUR FAVE READ OF 2018 W THE B/B FAM IN THE COMMENTS & like your faves!

When you #Inspire kids with a #learningdisability because I have one.
#dyslexia and #ADD is tough.
I wrote and illustrated this book to #prove to the #world#reading and #writing is all #visual to me.
What helped me to read were those large books with pictures.
To this day I create #drawings and perform the stories in my head.
Words get jumbled and my ADD kicks in.
It was SO HARD to finish this book.
So if you have a learning disability?
If I can do it, SO CAN YOU!
MY NAME IS MARIE ZHIVAGO, DR. ZHIVAGO and I am an #Author and Leader in Visual and Performing #ARTS#STEAM
I know I have not been very consistent with the content recently 🤦🏽♀️ however, I am very pleased to say that I have passed my final placement with 40/40! Alhamdulilah 🙌🏽
It was a Special Educational Needs placement which was a very intense but beneficial insight. I am much more aware of children with severely complex needs and how this affects the child’s quality of life.
These past 5 weeks I have been able to research and gather in-depth medical & academic information on Cerebral Palsies, Rett Syndrome, Scoliosis, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, Dravet Syndrome, Batten disease, Early Infantile Epileptic Encephalopathy and a whole load of other diagnoses. Hence the lack of activity on social media, I mean it’s great informing & educating people but I also like to fully understand things myself before educating others. 💖
We had great fun at our @mencapni Christmas family fun day yesterday! Pics of the party will be up over the next few days but we wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us create such a lovely event! From @homebase_uk donating our Christmas tree to First Cladd Blinds, Smith Metal Works & @northernproperty donating gifts, chocolate and other goodies. The amazing @cashforkidsni and their #missionchristmas campaign supplied LOTS of gifts for the children, we really couldn’t have done it without you all 🎅🏻🎄🎁 #learningdisability#learningdisabilities#christmas#christmastree#toys#charity#christmasspirit @mencap #thankyou

So today we had hours of demands and meltdowns wanting to go out choose toys spend money etc. Dan is all about his reward system and getting but the anger really sets in and I couldn’t give in. He can’t appreciate what he has it’s all just stuff he “needs” and Christmas is a complete stressor. He loves things/objects/vehicles/softies my house is a cluttered hoarders hell and I need to work on this. However today we played with a sleigh I made from cardboard and Xmas paper, which then resulted in wrapping a few of Dans “existing toys” in a pretend play game. It may as well have been Christmas morning, lots happy smiles, one extreme to another! Except when it came to an end. 😤He was happy to open his toys - the element of surprise and getting things without me spending!! Think we should just do this every day until Christmas. It’s a stress waiting for the actual day and too much expectation so just going to make it Christmas every day with the stuff we have already 😂😂 #autsim#christmas#christmashell#funnytimes#stressfultimes#learningdisability
