Yin and Restorative Yoga Practices offer us an opportunity to slow down, to open to the messages of the body and the heart as we still the noise surrounding and within. Research suggests that these practices are of benefit to our bodies as well as our minds, reducing experience of anxiety, depression, pain, insomnia, digestive distress, hormone imbalance and so much more. This is because when we feel safe and supported the body is able to devote resources to healing.

When we are tested how do we respond? How are we resilient in the face of struggle, conflict, hard times? 🌊
My mother was raised in Japan, and when I was a little girl, crying or sad, she would always say in Japanese, “Ganbate Ne”, meaning, have courage in the face of your struggle. Don’t give up. Be immovable, unshakeable in your truth. Our practice takes us to a place of self inquiry, to the cave of our true nature, our warrior heart. When we are surrounded by fire, we can find more inner peace, expansion, compassion, and freedom if we can flow like water. Finding the sweet balance of warrior strength and feminine fluidity.

The latest (and last!) batch of Genmaicha-Ginger is just so darn good! Look for it at a SOMA Taproom or elsewhere before it's gone. Radiate Cherry Chai shares the stage today - whenever people ask ironically for pumpkin spice (but I think they're maybe actually serious?) I direct them to SOMA's first flavor, by popular demand.
Did you know that SOMA started by accident? Founder Jean-Pierre used to bring his family-recipe kombucha to students after yoga classes, and they demanded he start a company! It was a different flavor every batch, and when he had to pick a first official flavor, "cherry chai" was the unanimous answer. To this day, we live the seasonal flavor lifestyle with a rotating flavor in bottles, three flavors in kegs that change every month, and of course a constant stream of seasonal flavors at the taprooms - what we get from our farmer partners (@gatheringtogetherfarm @dennisonfarm @frogsongfarmcbd @bellaorganicfarm ) and what we're learning about and playing with (medicinal mushrooms and CBD, anyone?). There's too much succulence and seasonality in this world to limit the booch!
Every person you meet is a mirror. What you love, what annoys you, what mystifies, what attracts. All of that is in you, highlighted, drawn out, presented before you in the face of another. You could take the stance that it’s all meaningless, that the people you greet are random and haphazard, but I much prefer to encounter each human with this question in my mind: “How are you me?” Sometimes it’s challenging to see that reflection, and sometimes it’s bliss. Either way, each human that crosses your path is an opportunity to grow, connect, and heal. How could you transform resentment into self-improvement? How could you cultivate self-value as you appreciate another? Keep this in mind as you look into your lover’s eyes, communicate with that challenging client, admire your friend’s bravery, make small talk at the grocery store, or struggle with “who’s right” in a disagreement. Each person is you, and you are them. Separation is only what you’re trained to perceive, and my experience is that living with less of a clear “you vs. me” boundary offers a lot more freedom than the alternative. It’s doing what feels right for in your gut, even if it’s scary, even if you don’t have time for it, even if you think you can’t afford it, even if we think we need to take care of other things/ people first. It’s ruthlessly choosing to love yourself when it’s hard. Some of us never learned how.
